Out riding last week, went to change into the big ring, shifter moved mech, chain moved, released lever, no click and chain dropped back into the little ring. Now I can't get it to hold the outer ring at all,many know about these things?

Think it might be knackered. Happened to mine and short of wedging a stick in the front mech, there wasn't much I could do.
Check Merlin, I got a replacement for £30!
Same happened to my wife's 105 on her cx bike, I replaced it with a new one. Stripped the old one and there was a bit broken inside
had this happen on 2 left hand units -both were foooked.
You may get cheap single left hand STI'a if you search about.
Will send it back to CRC and let them sort it out for me then, gonna be a massive pain though!
Only 'cheap' shifters I can see are Ultegra DI2, but they would end being very expensive.........
