Pauly.
No one has said he has any obligation.
He should have been straigh from the start instead of making an empty promise.
Just move on from it. Life's too short. You aren't out of pocket.
Jesus wept...
I with you on this Singlespeed why offer to help - As your not out of pocket just move on loads of good retailers in the market place.
So the moral here is, don’t offer to help unless you can help in a timescale that is acceptable to the person you are helping. Otherwise don’t bother, as you’ll just be as bad as the person who did wrong in the first place.
Riiight.
squirel.
Not quite sure why you're so keen on giving your expert opinion when you've not been through the whole ubyk palava but feel that it's ok to just randomly insult me.
I take it you're fine with people promising you help then blaming other companys with a good reputation for them not delivering their promises...
It's not about me not getting a false promise it's about Hope getting blamed and a warning to others to beware that the new owner of Ubyk seeming to be as bad as the old owners.
There wasn't a hope in hell of me ever giving ubyk any of my money again unless the new owner could prove to be trustworth.
Sadly he seems to have kind of slipped into the ubyk customer service of old pattern which is a shame.
Actions speak louder than words.
Remember who is doing who the favour you ungrateful twunt.
No-one is, that's the point you fanny.
No-one is, that’s the point you fanny.
So because he hasn’t delivered yet, that definitely means he’s not helping?
So because he hasn’t delivered yet, that definitely means he’s not helping?
Proving a negative? Good work.
tom.
It's been a fair while...
Don't let a lack of facts put you off though.
I’m not saying it hasn’t. What I am saying is, is that while this is high on SSStu’s ‘list of things that need sorting’ it’s probably equally low on Peaks List.
If you need some kit, buy it. If you want kit at an unsustainably low price, patience will be a virtue.
I'm with Stu on this one, he was offered assistance by peaks and now they are nowhere to be seen. It's right that they are under no obligation to offer help but they did which was good of them... but why offer help and not follow through. Now I've not lost any money in this fiasco but what I do know is that I will never spend any money with ubyk or peaks.
tom.
As i said up there it's not about the "kit" it's about the attitude and blaming Hope.
And also as a warning to others.
Do you know that Hope have got back to him and he’s not telling you, or that he hasn’t contacted them?
Given that Hope have been stung pretty hard by Ubyk (which is interesting in itself, but that’s another story) Do you think they will be jumping through hoops (heh) to help him honour the deals that lead to them being taken for all that money?
I get that the lack of comms is frustrating, but assuming the worst and warning folk off based on that assumption isn’t going to help anyone.
Tom.
You're just looking for an argument that i'm not interested in.
Have you actually looked at what happen with ubyk and Hope...
Can you even begin to understand that it has nothing to do with Hope not getting back to him...
Can you not see that continuing to blame Hope is not the way to win customers back.
Either way I'll just leave you to it and hope that you don't have to suffer what they've put others through.
For me it was a pair of wheels that didn't really matter for others it was a lot more...
Have you actually looked at what happen with ubyk and Hope…
I know a few things, but wouldn’t claim to know from all sides. Doesn’t sound like it was a great relationship from what I’ve heard, but that’s not for here.
I still hope Peaks can make a go of it, and wish them the best, and hope the ubyk stigma doesn’t kill them.
I think, if they keep the ubyk name as appears to be the case with the website, they'll be ****ed.
I still hope Peaks can make a go of it, and wish them the best, and hope the ubyk stigma doesn’t kill them.
That's the thing though tom.
So do I.
But they've just slotted into the false promise model of the old ubyk.
Shame really.
And that's coming from a customer that has had to cancel orders before because of false promises from them.
I kind of felt sorry for Pete until the false promise BS started.
Now he's just been bumped into the untrustworth list. Which TBF isn't very big with me.
Tomhoward why so defensive of peak bikes? They don't appear to be anything to do with you so why the concern?
They aren’t, I just want them to get a fair crack of the whip, without being hamstrung by the sins of the previous owners. On the face of it he’s trying to do right by folk, but even that isn’t good enough.
Takes a lot of bottle to start a bike shop ATM, I certainly wouldn’t, but wish them the best, and hope they don’t make me look to be a mug.
tom.
I'm just passing on my experiences to make people aware.
Maybe if you want to support them do it with your hard earned...
I just hope you don't get stung.
I've no axe to grind either way here, though I admit that doesn't even necessarily make me objective on the subject.
If Stu and people like him have their money back but other creditors (suppliers or customers) haven't then, if he's a decent individual, the new owner should surely be trying to sort out any of that shit first if he can. (If Stu hasn't got his money back, keep on chasing mate - that's fair game).
I guess after that he may start approaching suppliers like Hope and asking whether they can help him to honour the (I didn't see them but possibly ludicrously cheap) offers that Ubyk made to customers, presumably by them giving away a bit/lot of margin on the deal even if Peak matches that "contribution".
Then again, if I was Hope (and tens of thousands down in the game) I don't think answering that request would be top of my to do list and it may be that the new guy really has approached them and heard nothing back. Bit daft of him to say anything that could be interpreted as "I'll get you that deal again, just wait a week or so" but then I did't hear the conversation so I can't judge
TBH if people have their money back walk away, no need to continue the internal stress there. No real chance of getting your stuff.
If you don't have your cash back head to the courts at this stage but be ready to write if off.
For the new owners don't make promises you can't keep, ditch the name, ditch the history and make a fresh start.
Finally got my £234.99 back from my credit card. Happy days. 🙂
I went past the Oxford shop yesterday and the store has been stripped back to the walls, the landlord has a notice saying they’ve taken the store back as of 15 Feb but somewhat worryingly the skip outside had folder after folder of sales and accounts records in it going back several years. Landlord clearout perhaps?!
What about the Brighton shop?
This whole thing stinks I'm afraid.
Website appears to have gone down again too.
Thankfully I managed to log into it a couple of weeks ago and grab a copy of my receipt for my Hightower I bought from them a while ago.
Its working for me at the moment.
Their Facebook page says they are opening a Chesterfield store - lots of questions about the Oxford store that are going unanswered - apparently its got a For Sale sign on it.
Yep the whole affair stank ...and still does!
I wouldn’t be touching them as an outfit I’m afraid! It’s not like there aren’t other more reliable sellers out there.
Yes, Oxford store has a for let board nailed to it.
Brighton shop was completely stripped when I passed by Sunday before last
Seem to remember Peak Bikes is based in Chesterfield- they had a low-rent single page website offering gold, silver, bronze bike servicing and nothing else before they started including pics lifted from the original ubyk site.
Guess they're going to run the web business from their original store and leave Oxford and Brighton closed (are they still claiming to have stores in Oxford and Brighton on their website?). Makes sense if you're treating the store as a showroom rather than a conventional LBS which was ubyk's original approach, doubt Oxford or Brighton rents are cheap.
(are they still claiming to have stores in Oxford and Brighton on their website?)
Yep

I reckon a Sick! collaboration is on the cards.
Arn't those clowns based in Brighton too?
I live just outside Brighton and I gather Sick! are local. I wouldn't be going near either. Keeping the UBYK name seems crazy.
The owner of Peak bikes clearly has no intention of opening the Brighton store his pockets are definitely not deap enough.
Anyone that uses the finance on the Ubyk website be very careful as he is operating the same way as the old owners by collecting finance before goods are in stock.
Buyers beware!!!!!
Thought this was a follow on from the bunny hop coaching thread. Is disappointed.
got this from an email a few days ago

Ordered a set of cranks through the UBYK website mid March and 10 days later hadn't heard anything or received anything. Found this thread and realised they weren't likely to turn up anytime soon so sent them an email asking them to cancel. At this point nothing had been charged to my credit card. 30 minutes later Pete from Peak Bikes got back to me and advised they would cancel the transaction, no questions asked. Checked my credit card end of month and was surprised to find the transaction showing up 4 days after the cancellation. Dropped Pete an email questioning this and got a response 10 minutes later (at 8.30pm on a Sunday night) saying that he would check with Sagepay. Refund duly appeared a couple of days later.
Clearly they are having some teething issues but personally speaking I can't fault Pete at responding to emails and putting things right when things go wrong.
Ordered a couple of bits off Ubyk just over a week ago.
Not had anything turn up yet and they have charged my card.
Logged in to my order and it's down as "to be deleted".
Sounds like more of the same then.
