following from an earlier thread... I'm trying to get more confident about front tyre grip, although it's my confidence that probably needs the help. I've lowered the pressure to less than 30 on the front, bit more on the back, but the Racing Ralphs (29er) still seem really slippy on eg. Brechfa's trails. I weigh about 13 st., can anyone suggest tyre pressures or would a more nobbly front tyre help? A Nobbly Nic or such like? Thanks.
Maybe it's your body position rather than your tyres.
Try dropping the bars so you have more weight over the front?
do you mean that my weight should be more over the front or less round corners?

Gonna no drop ya bars just roll them forward a tad (same thing)
I would say, if you're not already, corner with your outside foot down and weighted. Tip the bike in against the foot pressure. This seems to push pressure through the tyres. It's helping me a lot esp. when the back drifts a bit, though I have along way to go until I can manual though corners!
Maxxis Ardent (60 a compound) 29er tyres are still fast rolling , but have better cornering grip IMHO. I use one on my 69er at Brechfa + it holds good in all but the slither down through the mud from bluebell woods.
On my 26" bike, High Rollers in summer + a Minion on the front in winter allows you to weight up the front end and really rail the berms. The difficulty just now is the wet leaves that make for an interesting top layer in places.
Oh + what them fellas say.
I was out 1st time on my new nobby nics yesterday. Was impressed with their grip in the snow.
