Cheers for those of you who voted Man & Boy the Singletrack Magazine feature of the year for 2009. I'm very proud of this award and so is Nial.

We were out riding today in the snow with Sim and Euan at Storthes Hall near Huddersfield. Here's a video clip of Nial on my Ragley Ti hardtail. He never did get to do his first downhill race this year due to circumstances beyond our control, but rumour has it he will be making his debut in the next couple of months. As proud dad I will keep you updated. Here he is today sending it on the icy hardpack.

Cracking work (vid/jump/etc). And, that was a fine article. It oozed passion, and explains why I value my STW subs over all others.

That's outrageous, encouraging a child to take such risks.
Be a responsible dad and run him to your nearest indoor shopping mall on a saturday.
๐Ÿ˜‰
Go on, admit it.......you get just a little bit worried when he pulls stuff like that. Good skills.

Riding with Nial is definitely the best motivation to MTFU ever. It's so demoralising to see him doing some of the stuff he does when you're not doing it yourself. It's also deeply impressive.

It was in issue 50, or you could read it as part of the awards voting, not sure if its still available that way..

It says below the vid that Nial is 12.

Super smooth style. Nice coaching there!

His style is all his own, I don't coach him I just take him riding and have kept him on flat pedals. As he is the age where he knows everything he's started coaching me!

Go on, admit it.......you get just a little bit worried when he pulls stuff like that.

Not really. He's the best judge of what he can do and I leave it up to him. Have had the odd moment when he's stuffed it though! he does get quite nervous when I do something stupid though.

nice one, must get his balls from his mother!

LOLZ. You should see the balls on his mother....

Thanks for all your kind comments.

high5 jedi - It is one of the coolest things, you are dead right.

jwt - No mountain biking at Hawkshead YHA next summer. They are doing art instead. A great shame.

Nice Ed - Storthes used to my 'local' back when I had the DH bike.

BTW - my birthday bunny should be calling you this week about the Gisburn Course at the end of Feb ๐Ÿ˜‰

WOW...good skills from Nial there Ed! he's flying. Our little 8 Year old Henry has just watched that and is seriously impressed! 'Nial is cool' :0)

Hen is managing some non-tech trails on his Felt and, like you, I'm not pushing him to do anything he's not comfy with. He is MFUing to the winter now though ;0)

I voted for your story - thought it was one of the best ST mag articles I've read actually.

Nial looks to be a pretty talented mtber... wish I was as good at near enough three times his age ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Good stuff. In't storthes fun? I remember being up there when I was 12 and wimping out of all that was there (even though the drop was much smaller). 10 years on and now nothing there phases me, so I dread to think what Nial will be like!
