Someone had to ask!
3 options

Rocket rons

High roller rear/worn purgatory front

Or if it's really muddy, trailrakers?

Forecast is for heavy rain friday, nice saturday, dunno sunday. Anyone local can give some idea of the conditions?

High Roller/Purgatory probably.

No need for Trailrakers, there's usually only a couple of muddy sections, the rest is either fireroad or wet slate, which will be a drag or slippery-death on those.

Don't really know about Rocket Rons. Don't want to go too light weith or they'll be torn to shreds.

Something nobbly on the front and something less nobbly on the rear.
Mainly bedrock and fireroad.
I'll be going for Nate front and Hu Du rear.

I used 2.4 racing ralphs when I did it a couple of years ago, when it was dry and sunny (and windy). They were faultless. Not sure how they'd cope in the wet. Better than me I suspect.

Will be Aspen front and crossmark rear. Unlikely to have much muddy bog and very likely to have a fair bit of climbing.

This worked for me last year 🙂

I'm thinking of a Maxxis Minion DHF 2.35 60A front and Ardent 2.25 rear. I could be convinced to try a Crossmark on the back, though.

Anyone else reckon a Crossmark on the rear is a good choice?

You'll not struggle for grip round there.

Got a 2.4/2.2 f/r conti x-king tubeless. Used first time at w/e and they were perfect-for the sunny dry south downs 🙂

I'll be running on 2.25" Racing Ralphs this year.

Did the winter warmer and was very glad of the Purgatory on the front due to the very muddy descents, but that was the day after an epic rain storm that melted all the snow and removed a rather large chunk of trail & hill side for good measure

Schwalbe racing ralph 2.25 Snakeskin.

Good sidewalls are important, the slate is sharp and covers the descents.

Ignitor 2.35 rear, Advantage 2.2 front. Both blown up to about 45-50psi in an attempt to avoid punctures and roll faster up the fire-roads.

High roller rear/worn purgatory front

If it's a big High Roller stick in on the front. I'd want a decent front tyre as opposed to a decent rear.

Previously used a variety or tyres, varying from a 2.3 Speed King / 2.2 Rubber Queen combo to 2.2 Spec. Purgs. Probably my favourite have been a pair of 2.4 X-King Black Chilis.

My advice would be to go for big contact patch, plenty of cushioning and tough sidewalls - leave your skinny super-light tyres at home. Saying that, you don't want to be dragging a dual-ply 2.5 Minion up the climbs.

I've done the Dyfi six or seven times now.

After a ride on the Crossmark, it's definitely the way forward. So fast and easily grippy enough. It's an ridiculous amount of fun with the Minion DHF on the front- controlled drifting round every corner. Mine's 2.25 LUST version run tubeless, so pretty tough.

Why do Crossmarks look they won't grip at all in a straight line?

Or is it just me?

I just can't see it. I think it's the daft Swiss cross in the middle.

I was gonna just ride what I always ride!

Presently its a On One Chunky Monkey up front and I am quite pleased with it and given that I previously had a triple compound 2.5 Minion dual ply I think its doing pretty well.

On the rear is a dual ply Minion 2.35 60a but after reading all the Racing Ralph comments above I am wondering whether I should dig out the single ply Minion or HR for some weight reduction...
