Any recommendations for 28t and 40t (or 26/38) chainrings to fit a standard 4 arm (64 / 104) spider. Needs to be significantly cheaper than the xt double chainset on rose bikes at around 125 quid.

Currently using middleburn cranks so could use a duo setup but I've heard the shifting isn't the best.

TA Specialites. Around £60 - £80 for a 28/40 set up. You may need to factor in some short chainring bolts though.

Any good LBS will be able to get them (Chinook 40 middle and 28 inner).

Yep, TA Chinooks, look at Euro shops though - try Starbike. Cheaper and with better stock generally.
