Want to do some very boring but necessary training to get me back on the bike. Initially it has to be very controlled hence why I'm looking at a turbo rather than getting out on the bike.

I need to get my hands on one but don't know where to start. Ideally I want something quiet so I can use it in the house.

Anyone willing to offer some advice?

I'm selling my cyclops MAG, its not as quiet as a fluid one, but its easily drowned out by an ipod, and you won't be too disturbed by it in the next room. Avoid fan ones at all cost, they're deafening.

Mate did this 1 months ago - try ebay - but most got for £60 +

Mate got the Tacx CRC one with 10% off and its mod quiet and well built, with mag resistance and remote:

This one:

Do a spinning DVD, just pedalling is very boring. I recommend the Spinerval DVD's. Your legs will not be able to hold you up after. 😆

I think I've got a Cyclops Mag one, seems pretty good, make sure you get a road/turbo trainer tyre as these cut down the noise a lot. I used mine in the living room on a wooden floor and could be heard be next door. I stuck a thick towel underneath the trainer and they could no longer hear it. TV still had to be turned up a little from normal though.

Just bought one of these and seems really good, be warned though turbo training if doene right isn't an easy option as there are no downhill rests

I got a Tacx one similar to the one in the ebay link above. I think it was £125 from CRC and comes with a remote for 10 levels of resistance.

I use it in the shed and it's quite hummy, but I think that is mainly as it resonates through the floor of the shed and 'cos it's a small wooden box it gets quite boomy.
I imagine with a folded over yoga mat underneath it or something similar it would be a lot quieter - anything to isolate the trainer from the floor.

Make sure you've got a towel handy as you'll sweat buckets. I haven't bothered with one of those towel thing things to stop your bike getting covered in sweat but might be worth a look.
I use two old phone books to prop my front wheel up to get the bike back on the level again.

We got one of these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-hydromag-elastogel-trainer/

It was on an even better deal a few months ago. Noise wise, very quiet (although we have a stone floor). Quiet enough to have someone else in the room watching TV whilst being used.

Boring as hell just watching normal telly though, I needed some sort of riding stimulation, then I discovered the Sufferfest videos, now i'm set!

bushwacked, if you want you can borrow mine. No job means plenty of daytime riding so not using at moment.

If you get one try the sufferfest downloads, advertised on here. Ive used a turbo for years with different workouts but those downloads are unvelievable. The fight club and downward spiral 😮

cycleops magneto here, very good. aiming now to buy a fluid at some stage in the future. def get a mat underneath aswell, to deaden sound and for sweat. likewise a bike thong... i'll leave you to google that!

spinervals dvds are very good as already posted, especially when starting out. although last night i quite happily did a quick 40mins watching a surf dvd for a change and just chucked in a few sets that i've learnt from my coach troy beastings.

Cheers for the advice so far. Its more to recover from Post Viral Fatigue than to do some serious training. I've got to do some very regulated training for a few months 🙁

Mrmo - thanks for the offer, what type you got?

I've got a set of these...
[img] [/img]

It really isn't boring and it's a serious workout. It's quite funny crashing an exercise bike too.

it is quieter than a fan, but there is a definite hum when you get it up to speed. But i doubt any trainer is really quiet,
