get a quiet one if you have a small child and partner and will be using it in the house - the 'hum' from a turbo at speed can be pretty intrusive especially if it's on a wooden floor

Kinetic road machines are pretty good and has a big flywheel option, fluid trainers tend to be a bit quieter.

Of the types - wind, magnetic, fluid
Wind is noisiest.
Magnetic is cheapest.
Fluid/Gel the quiestest and best road 'feel'.

I bought a cheap Elite Volare Mag Lite (£80). Build quality is not the greatest. And not the most stable either. But very quiet, very cheap and enough resistance (through the gears) for a decent workout for a club level cyclist.

If I can hack the boredom - I will eventually upgrade it.
