Bought a pair of Hope Hoops (Pro IIs on Stan's Flow rims. Lovely wheels, £240 all in). Then bought a pair of Nobby Nics 2.25 USTs. Fitted Stan's rim tape and valves. Fitted tyres, which pumped up instantly with my old crappy track pump. Added sealant, gave them a shake all-round and first test ride tonight! Well chuffed with the whole system. Completely faff-less IMO. Just hope I don't tear a tyre tonight...

simultaneously ripped the sidewalls of two tyres (NN's) on Sunday, luckily only a mile from the car. Felt like giving up on tubeless for the first time.

What type of NN were they? The UST ones I fitted today had beefy side-walls so hopefully will stand up to more than the standard ones.

jim i am with you.

i don't follow the "run them low pressure" idea that most tubeless people seam to/believe. i am currently "still sceptical" running on stans tape and some 719 rims but i am looking to swap the rims in the future to flow rims if they carry on the way they are going.

i run 30 psi front and 35 rear, loads of grip and puncture protection. Any lower and it feels odd and though i could roll the tyre clean off the rim at any point.
lighter... hmm yes a little
more grip... defiantly yes
more feel from the tyre... (even as a sceptic) yes i sort of get more of a feel for the ground and grip levels under the tyre.

only issue i have so far is pushing hard into a berm i had the rear tyre slowly roll off the rim, it turned into almost a drift by the end.
i suspect my tyre may be loosing a little pressure over a ride i need to check it and see if i can either better seal it or swap to say a flow rim easy.

from a BIG sceptic.... i'm getting to like the setup.

What type of NN were they?

Standard evos. In their defence, they were ripped on some big flint while running a bit loose in a long rut. I'd previously run the same tires for a year in the peaks with one puncture, so it was an unusual situation. No less irritating for that though. I felt lucky to get out uninjured.

Schwalbe evo sidewalls are paper thin, RR's are the only tyre I have suffered serious sidewall rips on.

Always carry a pair of tubes and some tyre boots even when running tubeless, they might save you a long walk!!!
