Just done a Stans tubeless conversion, fitted the tyres (UST) pumped and all looked well till I went for a ride. I initially thought both wheels were buckled but on inspection the tyre is not seated evenly and gives a distinct wobble.
Where should the tyre sit relative to the rim? there is a helpful line but that varies from touching the rim to 3mm away (with the opposite condition on the other side).
How should I get it straight? lots of pressure and hope it will get itself right?
you can pump and hope but the tyre may blow off the rim, or to do it right you need washingup liquid on the bead of tyre and the rim of wheel when you pump it up it will all pop into place around 60-80psi 😀
60-80 psi !!!!
I have only been going as far as 30-40, might use glasses and earplugs if going that far
After they've popped into place you then let the extra air out again 🙂
I wouldn't inflate Stans rims up to 80 psi - they really aren't built for it
If you are unfortunate enough to blow the tyre off, you'll definitely have a wobbly wheel
other rims are a bit more tolerant though
Doesn't it matter? Serious question as I've just done a Stans conversion with a WTB rim and Bonty Mud-X and it's got a bit of a wobble
The rim is a Mavic, but still not had the nerve to go above 50psi, the tyre states a maximum of 50 and the stan's kit a maximum of 40.
Nuke - It matters because it affects the ride, you can feel the wobble and because it looks pants.
I always pump UST tyres up to 60 to get them to seat, must admit despite having done it many times without problems the gunshot crack they make when they seat still makes me jump every time.
yep the loud crack when it seats gets me too. soapy water on the bead before pumping up will allow the tyre to pop on without to much effort and under less pressure so no crack
