OK, OK

Smudge your right, sorry guys lets keep it clean and above board

CC
one of the reasons i went for the 6 led light is its versatility, i.e you can change lens to what suits me and at the same time it will be upgradable as new leds come out in the future.

With the round lens you do get more lumens but you are stuck with the lense

CC based on your theories, development is a no no?

when does anything stand still on development? Buy the latest phone and in 6 months time something better has come out, doesn't mean to say its not upto the job does it.

trout is a sound guy, why are you trying to stir things up.

Buy anything and you can bet it is already out of date as the manufacturer will have the next model waiting

Captain_Crash, wtf is your problem? Do you have anything riding on his success (or otherwise)? Think you need to go out and take some fresh air or something.

I prefer the look of the 6 jobbie, and is bound to be plenty bright enough.

So far 4 narrow 2 medium optics looks to be a winning combo.

Looking very sweet, much better than the xre?

I work with someone who feels he has to give his opinion on anything and everything. After a while it just becomes monotonous and the best thing to do is ignore it. We are all big enough to form our own opinions on products and one person with a negative attitude towards it isn't going to change our minds. Keep up the good work and development Trout. 🙂

Can't wait to get my Liberator, I couldn't care less if Trout has a 7 led light now! It's good to see that he is still tinkering and seeing what he can do. If it wasn't for this attitude from Trout and other homebrew light builders, then we wouldn't be getting the Liberator, so would be having to spend more money for less lumens.

Any idea on the collection (from yours) date for those of us to crap to build their own?

In all the fun over the last couple of hours Chris, did you miss or just egnore my above post.

I can't see the difference between the 6 and 7 leds anyway.

I had the 3000 lumen DO, and im pretty sure for the size the LL is a much better light, even my old LED version, so Lumen count isnt everything.

Fair point !. I hadn't considered that. your right.

Just one thing. I raised the question about cooling, then what do you know !, extra cooling fins on the bottom of the light.

Probably, that extra cooling was in the pipeline and my comments had nothing to do with them....right !.

Because of some of my posts, you could say that this light now has those extra cooling. So while I've taken some flack, isn't that light now probably better able to keep cool with them new LEDs ?.

Nah, just keep stomping me. All because I post what I think.

Tell you what my problem is. Seeing the flourescent lens thing. Total rip-off of another persons idea. But I suppose, if you post on the web, then don't expect to keep your ideas. that is the law of the web.

I dont think I have much else to give this thread. As for the comments. Its all water off a ducks back. But I haven't lied, I haven't misslead.
I have just asked a few questions and given my opinion on what I've seen.

But that does not sit well with some. Fair enough, I respect that they may have and shall post a differnet opinion. But I will try not to call anyone names because they post an opinion I may not agree with.

Cheers.

CC.

6 or 7 LED's ????

Has anyone thought about the effect of mud on the different style of lenses and how that affects the lumens put out ??

Rectangular/low v circular/higher/more surface area - which one will collect the most mud ???

Who's going to be first with a built in "head lamp" washer that's what I want to know?

😀

Quick question Trout, as you appear to just be waiting on the drivers to arrive (from what I gather), will work on the rest of the light be going on so that when the drivers do arrive, they can just be added into the mix and finished off relatively quickly? I don't know if that's possible or not, but it was just a question that popped into my head.

Also, what's all this b0llox about a 7 led light and us customers supposed to be peed off or something? What rubbish! I'm still very happy with my order for the 6 led light, it looks like a brilliant little package (ooh err missus!). Also, we'd only have to pay more for the 7 version anyway, maybe we don't want to pay any more even if we had the choice? That's all I have to say on that matter anyway.

The one with 6 LEDs is already massively excessive imo but good luck to the guy.

Surely if all these builders take the best ideas from each other the result will be better and better lights? (Or just more and more ridiculously bright ones) 🙂

Trout.

Hi. Nice beamshots there.

For the benefit of anyone on here comparing beamshots of any 2 lights or more, would you mind telling us what camera settings you used.

I am only asking for the benefit of all viewers on here, so that we can have the best possible comparison, etc.

Thanks.

L.

Hi Trout, had another idea the other day after checking out the Exposure lights at the Cycle Show. ( This'll give Captain Snivel something to whine about). Exposure have the RedEye and RedEye Micro, that plug into the back of a JoyStick when it's helmet mounted. Great idea, nicely executed, but I felt it was asking to get ripped off and lost in the event of a crash or clouting the light on a low branch. My idea, which may have occured to Trout, and may not be practical, is to have a superbright red led and a second switch on the back of the Baby Troutlight, the second switch giving an independent steady/flashing mode for the red led when helmet mounted. That way you always have a rear light with you when using a helmet light. Another thought, regarding the on-going development of the front LL light that Captain Snivel was sneering about, with the 7 led having surfaced, is that the circular mounting makes a light bulkier, whereas the inline layout of the LL has a lovely low profile rendering it much less vulnerable to crash damage. The thing is, though, the design of the LL lends itself to expansion widthwise: an extra led on either side won't make the light any higher, and the additional width shouldn't be too intrusive; an extra mount on the other side of the stem would give the support anyway. The cnc work to make the wider case should be pretty easy to carry out, and the lunatic, giggling part of me could see a really nuts 10 led light bar that still wouldn't go any higher, just wider, about half as much again?

Not much point going further than a 6 led light, r5 are currently 350 lumens when the s2 is released in the coming weeks that will be 400 lumens, wont be much more in terms of sheer output id imagine i mean the ll now is 2200 lm which is well far beyond than most would want or need.

It'll be more about efficiency in the coming years id imagine.

Thanks Luminous
beam shots at 6 secs -f4 - white balance daylight

XT your Mad
But I like you 😀

red leds I did one last year for a guy who commutes in york

[IMG] [/IMG]

no switch as he wanted them on when ever he turned the front on
was a killer rear light .

I think exposure copied off me 😉

and the wider light is cool but 7 leds is the upper limit for the Maxflex driver but could go with 2 drivers and 12/14 leds
but then it would need a whopping battery pack .

Thanks Trout! Yeah, I thought it was a totally nuts idea, going for eight or more LEDs, especially when emitter output is going up and up. The red led's on the one in the pic look really neat, perhaps one with a switch would be possible? I'm not in the market for a Baby Trout at the moment, as I've got the LL on the way first, but when I do go for one, a switchable rear light would be a real plus, as I might want to bar mount it sometimes, and having a glaring red light staring at me on the bars would be off-putting. Anyone else like the idea of a rear light on the Baby Trout?

I guess it will be a 7 up board you will be putting in that housing of yours then ? Be a nice light when it is done .
Just dont fall foul of Captain Crash as he is watching us light builders like a hawk.

XT
space is pretty full in the baby light but a couple of reds would be great would just need to find a nice tidy switch

Trout, I think DrP was refering to the old theory, that applies mainly to bikes. ie how many LED's is enough? The answer is n+1, where in is the number that the nutty Captain Crash thinks you are fitting.

In 1995 scientists stated 8 LEDs were impossible. The world would literally collapse in on itself - you're playing dangerously close to the edge there Trouty my friend..... 😉

Trout.

Hi. My design can hold 7 LEDs, whether I use the cutter MCPCB or just put 7 singles in.

The design of the light was started a few months ago, so its come about by coincidence really.

I looked into 7 LEDs a few weeks ago.

I have the package space but its not as simple as just sticking an extra LED in to the light, imo.

Yes, I have been following you record setting thread 🙂

Without wanting to get involved !, I hope things calm down a bit for you.
