Hi folks,

Off to lake Garda in July and booking a day with Luca at bike shuttle.

Thinking of booking another day and take my wee boy, he is 11 and has good confidence and experience of Carron Valley and the Glentress Blue and parts of the red at Glentress.

Had a suggestion of the Tremalzo run, any views on suitability for a kid, is there any dodgy/exposed bits that would be out of order? Any other suggestions at Torbole or Balde/malcesine

Cheers

Alan

You could start with a lap or two around the freeride bike park in torbole

I came back from Melcesine a few weeks ago and had a few great rides, some around the town and one day up on the cable car.

I dont know the tremalzo run, but would suggest being cautious - some (most) of the off road is very steep, rocky and technical in nature. You don't want to put him off do you?

He may be OK on trail centre stuff over here, I think the trails over there are from another league!

Hope you have a great time whatever you decide

PS Take your bikes if you can, they have some good hire bikes, but the brakes the wrong way around!

I work there all summer with Luca guiding the Germans around. I'm on the shuttle every day and can sort your bookings out also. If you need any help or info get in touch www.rebbens.info

The old Ponale road would be a good challenge I reckon, from Riva and back. Aim to get to Pregasina for a cafe stop if he can manage the climb. It's got lots of interest with tunnels, cliffs and lake views. There's some exposure but the track is wide, and bumpy enough to be fun on the way back down.

Tremalzo has many options once you have arrived at Passo Nota. 180mtr fire road climb then 500mtrs of loose wide track to get to Passo Nota. Easiest way down from Passo Nota is either straight down to Limone (mainly tarmac but quiet road) but then you must get the ferry back, don't attempt the road via the tunnels, it's a suicide run with the traffic, ferry is only 6 Euro. Alternatively continue towards Passo Guil from Passon Nota (short sharp climb out then lots of traversing on wide track). From Passo Guil turn left and descend to Lago di Ledro. From Ledro there is a cycle path that links up with the Ponale Road down to Riva. All perfectly ok if he is ok with a few steep bits (not technical).

Tremalzo is mainly easy stuff but with some spectacular views. Yes there is some exposure but you're on a doubletrack at those points so that would make it easy enough to keep him a suitable distance from the edge.
Depending on your route down, there are a couple of short sections above Pregasina that he'll maybe have to scramble down but they're just rocky steps/gullies and not exposed.
You'd also get the whole Old Ponale Road in at the end of the Tremalzo run.

Michael (aka qwackers, up there^^^) is a good source of info. He knows the area well.
