Hi, my sons Trek 3900 has warped discs (both 160mm), I had an old set of Hope floating rotors, 180mm and 160mm, the 160mm fitted no problem, and I was considering two options:
1. Get a matching 160mm for the front and sell the 180mm
2. Get an adapter for the front Promax mechanical disc brake and fit the 180.
If I go with option 2, are the forks strong enough for a 180? and if so what adapter will be suitable, the forks are IS mount, but th calipers themselves are post mount (i.e. they can be aligned like Avids, releasing the allen bolts, aligning and retightening). Your help is appreciated. Also most stockists seem to be out of stock of 160mm Hope Rotors, why is this?

Cheapest and easiest option is a new mount, will give a tad more braking power too, probably the reason not many stockists carry 160mm rotors in the first place.

Any idea which adapter, or do I just need an IS to post mount for a 180/183? from any manufacturer eg. avid. Also will the forks be up to the job?

What forks do you have? sorry if I missed it as I skimmed through your text.

Suntour xct v2 forks, just found the suntour site which says they should be good for up to 185mm disc, just measured the current adapter which is 51mm is to 74mm PM, so will try an avid adapter for 185mm.

Just noticed the rivets on the floating disc had rubbed slightly on the alloy caliper and worn a slight groove in the caliper, tidied it up with a file and readjusted so that it no longer rubs. I assume this will be ok.
