anyone ridden across or considered riding across the States??
the call of the open empty road (ish) is getting louder!
Thinking about it for next year. Virginia to Oregon. GF has done it from San Diego to Florida.
did she will camp or hotel / motels only?
how long did she take out of interest?
She camped mostly, sometimes motels. 3300 miles 2.5 months I think. She did it with ACA. Adventure Cycling America.
I fancy following their route East to West but in a smaller, group 4 max.
was thinking either solo or one other. reading up on it a lot at the mo.
was hoping to do in 35 - 45 days max though!
You will need a mind of steel, as the Mid-West and Plains are very very long and very very dull. It's tough enough driving across!
However, I still want to do it, badly ๐
You might consider the Tour Divide race? Similar, but MTBing and without the flat crap bits.
This is an interesting blog. The guy hooked up with three pretty fit guys and shared camping and motel costs. The potential for squandering time faffing is huge. With a small motivated group it would be pretty good fun.

What routes do people usually take, i.e. through which states? I can't imagine riding across Kansas, driving was bad enough
I have always dreamt about doing this. Like others have said: Picking the right route is vital. I have driven from Florida to San Fran and some of the roads would send you crazy, particularly in a head-wind ๐
