I've got a 09 Giant Trancex frame that I built up with my own bits.

I currently have it set up with Fox Float R forks set at 120mm with quite a few spacers under the stem.

I've heard of quite a few people changing the forks to 140mm travel, mainly Revelations and Talas forks it seems. How well does it work?

I could take the 20mm spacer out of my forks and turn them into 140mm travel floats, I could then take some spacers out from under the stem to compensate. Will it make much difference to the way it will handle rocky descent? I mainly ride at Coed Y Brenin and the other welsh trail centres and sometimes feel I could do with slightly more travel on the front, the rear is great and in a way out performs the fork.

Any thoughts?

i have a trance (not x) with 120mm

so trance with an x should handle 140 about the same - probably.

Ok thanks.

Ye I've heard of a lot of people upping the travel of the forks on the older trance too.

Just spent all weekend on mine with 140mm Fox talas - the bike is now FANTASTIC rather than good but nervy.

!40 on the downs and flats, 120 on climbs ftw

I've also got a Trance (not X) with 120mm forks, plus a Reign (not X) with 160mm forks.

Both were greatly improved by an extra 20mm over the travel supplied.

Give it a go, I'm sure it'll be great.

Oh, and do try it with the stem as low as it'll go (removing conical spacer if it has one). My Trance handles much better that way.

Mine doesn't have that conical spacer but I could remove about 20mm in spacers to lower the stem.

Does anyone run it with 140mm floats?

i think that the i2i is far to short for a coil shock to be honest - surely the linear nature of the coil would be all wrong?

No reason why not, would need to be something like the old Vanilla R to fit though.

Sure I've seen a coil shock on one on MTBR in the US. Not sure why though tbh..

If you're unhappy with your air shock, getting it PUSHed might give you the improvement you are looking for.

I had the Float R on my Trance done by TF Tuned and it now rides much better. And more coil-like too, I'd say.

Has anyone tried the TranceX with a 140mm Fox Float fork?
