I may have a crack at the Fred Whitton this year. Its 4 weeks away

What sort of training/preparation should i do between now and then

Im guessing plenty of miles on the bike, plus some maybe 1 long ride per week?

Some [great big] hill training, I would have thought

whether 4 weeks is enough time or not will depend on how fit you are now I suppose

As much as you can without overtraining.

In practical terms long rides & long climbs are likely to help.

I think i might walk up the hills.

Havent had a go at hardknott/wrynose on my new road bike, but its only got two big chainrings so I might be pushing the steep bits. I may have a go at it tonight after work if I can be arsed.

Whats the best strategy? Ride one night, then have the next night off or something?

Best do decent long rides then recover IMO.
