Had to do my first trail-side tubeless repair last night using an 'anchovy' and that little double pronged tool.
Managed to put a 6/7mm hole in the middle of the tread, and the sealant was bubbling out.
I was surprised that it went so well, and that I was able to carry on riding with little more than a quick pump up. A lot quicker than changing a tube too!
A big thumbs up to the little Weldtite kits - been sat in my bag for over a year, and did exactly what was required. £5 well spent!
Ajantom - I had a sidewall one a couple of years back and the "anchovy" fixed mine too, used tyre for rest of season til the tread wore away, "anchovy" hung on in there, tenacious thing.
The kits do eventually dry out, but for £5, I agree money v well spent

Not as cheap but we use Dynaplug and a CO2 canister. Can be up and running in about a minute.
I currently have 2 bikes running and only one tyre doesn't have anchovies. They seem to last fine.
Only thing I would say is not to leave too much on the outside. Once or twice, I've pulled them out of the tread area cornering - a bit like treading on your own shoelaces.
Used one a couple of times and both have held-up well on my fatbike hundreds of miles later. I still carry a spare tube though; plus after sealant, it provides a good second line of defence.
Did borrowdale bash a few weeks ago, on that rocky castle crag one of our group got a flat, we stopped to anchovy it. FIVE holes altogether, plugged them all and got going again. One of them blew later in the ride tho 🙁
Apparently* strips of rubber (ie panaracer kit or a cut up innertube) work better on holes in the bead than anchovies.
