I'm heading down to Rotherham for a few days for work next week. I've been down once a month or so over winter, but now we have the nicer weather and lighter nights I thought I'd take the bike down.

I'm staying just outside Mexborough. Are there any trails nearby? I'll have a car, so within 30 minutes would be good.

Wharncliffe Woods is about 30 mins from you.

You could get to Wharncliffe in 30 mins from there.

Great fun flowing XC trails - excellent in the dry, rubbish in the wet, however most of the good stuff is very hard to find without local knowledge or a good bit of luck!

The DH tracks are more obvious and easier to find.

Bit more advise on this thread:

Here's a link that might help, placemarker should be on the top of the 'Fast Track'. XC route winds from top car park to here, then it's mostly fire roads back up:

no its not, there is maybe 50 yards of fire road on the way back up... the rest is super tight twisty wooded singletrack.

next you'll be telling me it only rides well in the dry.

Also pretty hard to find on your own - the 'official' trail only got as far at the bottom then ran out and even that's hard enough to follow.

MrGrim, definately take the great offer of a local guide to get the most out of this small but confusing forest with some hidden gems!

er... not too sure when I'll be back from north Wales on Monday and I think I'm booked up on Tues, I'll have to check and get back to you. Thursday would have been ideal

No worries. I'm coming back up to Scotland on Wednesday so won't be around on Thursday.

The Wharncliffe website looks really good and seems to have enough information to get me there and explore.

Woo Rotherham. I'm from there.

No riding like, that's why I moved to Sheffield.
