Looking at a Felt Edict Frame but what other options with a frame only option are there out there - Pref carbon? Had a look around and were talking way above £2k rather than approx £2K for the Felt (when it arrives in the UK)?

I'd be looking at the Felt myself. But also the Blur XC Carbon and Yeti AS-R Carbon.

Only one which has come close is the Yeti AS-R Carbon Gary - is def on my short list but the only thing which I am concerned with it the "titchyness" of the Felt on descending which some reports have said. However I take most of these with a pinch of salt esp when the setup and tyres are sub-optimal!

Not ridden it, but how about the Canyon Lux? Well within budget at £1,529.

You can also pick up 2010 Anthem Advanced framesets for not much more than £2,000 according to a quick google search.

New AS-R carbon looks quite appealing (IMO) without the seatmast.

There's no doubting that the Felt is a bit old school in it's geo but I had it with a 70mm stem and 680mm riser on it and found its manners good.

What size Felt would you want? If you could get up to Bristol I could probably get you a demo on a large...

Looking at the Medium but would be happy to demo a Large Gary? Looking at a Horiz TT of around 600mm give or take 10mm 🙂

How tall are you? I could ride the large but the handling was a bit vague on the front as I couldn't get over the front wheel enough. I'm 5'8" and deffo a medium.

Yeti is fine if you don't mind it spending more time in their warranty department than underneath you.

If you're limited to £2k then you're missing out all the best ones; Rocky Mountain Element RSL, new Scott Spark, Blur XC, Scalpel, Epic etc.

I'd agree with all of that.

You're really limiting yourself by going frame only. I'd sooner buy a £3000 bike and flog all the parts than spend £2000 on a frame which is only very marginally (if at all) better.

I'd add the Top Fuel to Dougal's list. Discounting a bike based on pivot bearings is also a little odd, each to their own!

The new 2012 Spark looks excellent, you may get a bargain on a 2011 one, but I personally don't really like the way they ride.
