Lester - sorry, didn't mean to teach you to suck eggs!! Maybe its just a function of big wheels making it "Look" bigger, if all else is equal.

My Fireline frame is sitting in the Dining room taunting me!! I had been contemplating one for a while, but the 15% off frame sale was too good to miss!!

I'm yet to decide whether to sell another bike to fund the build (its my first 29er) or to engage in some long term money laundering from the Joint Account. 😯

I used a Problem Solvers Backstop Clamp to solve the front mech cable/tyre problem, moved the end stop position to the side, giving loads of tyre clearance.

big Pete
loads of clearance, there is hardly any room to the frame as it is 😉
but i think i will get me one of those problem solvers and give myself a little more room

Well my 3rd frame finally arrived the other day. The latest iteration seems a bit neater; Rear post mount is simpler and inline. ISCG is also straight, which the first 2 were not. Seatpost tolerances are better too, but the butt weld issue remains (solved by having more than ~110mm post insertion). As a friend said to me last night though, it wouldn't be an On-One (I know its a Titus...) without a few quirks.

Having been off the bike for 11 weeks it was good fun to be back riding it last night. It really is a fun yet fast bike. You can't be having a bad day because it won't let you fart about at the back of a group.

Whats the butt weld issue?

The parts for mine are coming together now! What forks are people using? Im drawn to the RS Rev RCT3's on CRC, but was hoping for something white.

Here is mine, built it up with Alfine 8 (for winter)

I used X-Fusion Slide forks which I got from Eighteen Cycles and seem very good for £300

[img] [/img]

Before anyone says anything, its a half link chain and the tensioner should be here today.

Goes like a rocket on most stuff but is a bit compromised on steep up and dawn (but not as much as an S/S)

Only ridden it twice but have a few new Strava PR's already.

The bits for my build are coming together nicely!!! The plan is no decals with white forks.

As for bars, I've seen a lot of people talking about using flat bars on these to keep the front down. This is my 1st 29er - is this more of an issue on. 29er than a 26?

Also, does a raw Ti frame need heli taping?

I have a Fileline and all you need is Green Scotch Brite to brush any light scratches out.

Gloss heli tape will look mingin, not sure how Matt tape will look though.

I went for Exotic Carbon Risers and they are still packed up with about 20mm of spacers, and 50mm stem. (I have a dodgy back and neck so wanted to be more upright) I went up a couple of the steepest climbs around me last night and didn't have any problems falling off the back.

I have also gone for no decals, no real rubbing problems, but I might put some Velcro round the brake pipes just for a bit of added protection.

I give the frame a regular rub down with Johnsons Baby oil, which I was recommended to do by a friend who has had Titanium frames for ages, it has the benefit that the mud knocks off really easily. I havent washed it yet, just give it a rub with a rag and it comes up loveley 😀

Still loving mine, with Pikes on it feels a bit invinceable!!!

Exotic Flat Carbon bars here and 60mm turbine stem in the cockpit (stem at 6deg drop).

Maybe some nice fat 35mm Carbon rims for it next!!!

re the Fireline, there's something of a contradiction on the product page:

"Huge tyre clearance is assured..."

"Please note: We recommend using a maximum of 2.25" width tyres."

Is anyone running bigger rear tyre, such as a 2.35 Hans Dampf or 2.30 Specialized Butcher control?

& if anyone is down Surrey Hills way and is OK to let me have a go on a medium (you can try my Yelli!), I'd appreciate that.

I ran a Purg ok if that helps.

Good point tho as I'm looking to go with 35mm wide rims and as far as I understand it they tend to jsut make the tire plumper (rather than taller!). So will take the risk I think.

I think there is a bit of plump room so to speak but not much room for a taller tyre as it'll buzz the seat tube. i.e. the stays are fairly wide and the plate bridge behind the cranks side helps a little too here.

If you check through the thread back a bit (I know it's a bit big!)there's some pics of the tyre clearance with popular tyres.

Thx - my hunch is the "please note" may be a later edit and is something to do with tyre vs front mech clearance. Apparently some people still run front mechs.

i have 2.35 hans dampfs on mine and a front mech, its close but there is enough room, i also had a 2.4 maxxis on and the front derrailleur wire was just about touching the tyre

Wasn't there an issue with On-One's own Smorgasbord tyres? The single compound ones fit fine, but the dual compound ones were a larger diameter and rubbed IIRC.

Even with only about 4mm between my tyre and the seat tube, I've never had an issue, even in clay.

I've got the dual compound ones on my medium and haven't had any issues.

Regarding tyres. I had a On-onechunky monkey 2.4 dual compound on the back of mine with clearance(1×9).
There's a photo on p22 of this very thread.

Edit: on a crest rim.

no, you should listen to him.

I just realised you were talking about mech clearance not frame. I'm running 1x9...

Hi Guys.

I am a rider for Denmark, looking for a cool AM bike, so i am following this tread clously.

But got some questions before i hit buy.
Hope some of you guys can help me.

Any of you owners have any problems with the seattube is to big, so thet the seatpost slips ?

Is the enough clearance between the backtyre and the front mach when it is real muddy ?

Hi nopanic - I'm still building mine up (bought frame-only), so not ridden it yet, but the seat post fits perfectly. I believe there were some seat post issues on early models, but it has been sorted now.

No Panic
absolutely no problems with seat slippage on mine

tyre clearance depends on which tyres you use
not much clearance at all on my 2.4 minions, but im happy with the clearance on the 2.35 hans dampf, and plenty of clearannce on the 2.25 smorgasbord

but earlier in the thread there was a link to a mod for the front derailleur which helped, but looked a bit naff imho

Lester

I like the Fireline and wanted something like it, the lack of clearance with a big tyre (mud not actual rub) is of concern but also Brant has stressed 120mm MAX for the fork. I also wanted a 142x12 bolt thru axle.
On. Separate note, we can be a bit blasé about putting bigger forks on stuff but the engineers do the calculations for a reason and its not geometry alone.
Witness Mike Sinyards point about a fake Spesh taking out all of someone's teeth and making a mess of their face when the headtube strapped off at speed. The consequences can be unpleasant. Just saying.

If you're looking for something comparable but burlier or for longer travel, look at a Yelli Screamy. I have one and it's great but overbuilt for my use which is why I'm keeping an eye on the Fireline.

Hi guys. I am about to buy titus fireline 29 er evo frame. Can somebody help me and tell me what is the bottom bracket height measured from the ground with 120 mm fork ? I have searched in the topic but i did not found this information. Thanks in advance.

My current frame is with 12" and it is too low for me. I want frame with higher bottom bracket. At least 12.5". If it is 13" this will be great. My finger is on the purchise button of titus, just waiting for your confirmation that it is 13". 🙂

macleod - on any bike, BB height is going to depend on what tires you run. That's why a lot of manufacturers quote BB drop (distance from center of BB to horizontal line between axles) instead as it takes tires out of the equation. But even BB drop will change with a taller or shorter fork...

Ok, on my current frame spec is written : bottom bracket drop 70MM. I have measured the bottom bracket height from ground. It is exactly 12" with 29x2.1 tyres and 100 mm fork.
I can not find online this information for the fireline 29 er evo. So does anybody know it ? I will ride it with 120 mm fork, 29x2.1 or 29x2.2 tires. I know that different 120 mm forks have slightly different axle to crown length, logical is also that tires size also changes bb height, but I need the bottom bracket height in average. I do not need precision to a millimeter.

Thanks, this is clear enough for me.
I have one more question regarding the headset. In the description in on-one site is written:
Headset: ZS44, EC49. Smoothie Mixer standard
I do not understand this numbers very well. Obviously it will fit with smoothie mixer headset, but will it fit with other tapered headset ?
