i have just got my new shiny anthem x2 and it will get its first outing on sunday
just wondered what people do preride for the shocks?
did i read right that a squirt of gt85 on the stanchions is a good idea?
i have not got any fork boots or neoprene cover things and am not planning to get any either
any other tips ?

dont put gt85 or wd40 anywhere near the shock or forks.
maybe clean it when it gets muddy if you can be arsed.

Oh and he forgot to add 'go fast'.
dry lubing the seals on shocks and forks is always good practice IMO.
most importantly, take a shock pump with you, and be prepared to stop and fiddle.
FWIW, i run my trance with a slightly hard fork, to keep the front end responsive, and the shock set up so i go through all the travel once a ride.
XC whippet Si rides his Anthem X with the shock a bit harder, so he gets less travel, but the bike feels "taughter"

buy a container of dry lube!!
it's chain lube, which 'dries' rather than staying wet. It tends to leave behind a teflon based residue.
HOWEVER, I've never done it in donkeys years of sus ownership and have never had an issue. Much better to do regular maintenance than think you're helping by dribblind lube on. (which wont help much, the seals are designed to be lubed from the inside not the out!).

Started using this a few weeks ago on the forks and shock of my Anthem, amazing stuff.
Wipe dry mud off, consider spraying some silicon spray. Repeat until you or the bike die of old age.
silicon spray if you really worried, but don't worry too much about it, seems to me that lots of rubbished talked on here about the extra maintenance a full-susser requires, sheesh just clean it and ride it.
Just make sure the grit is cleared off the shafts (forks & shock) post ride.
1, Put biking clothes on & helmet.
2, fill up camel pack with drink of choice & spare bits
3, Ride said bike
4, CLean with hose pipe, wipe off and lube chain etc
5, Put in bike shed
6, Repeat 'till end or next bike purchase

Got RS Toras. A little GT85 and bouncing up and down seems to help clear the remaining crap out the seals after you've cleaned your fork post-ride. I've discussed this with Tim Flooks when he serviced them after 2 years use - I could have kept the seals in they were still clean enough.

I don't know why people say a bit of GT85 at the seals is bad for forks, it's just a bit silicon/solvent.
Make sure the pivot bolts are tightened properly (the LBS should do this for you before sale, but keep half an eye on them). Don't spray anything on the shock or forks, if you're really bothered then dribble a tiny bit of teflon based chain lube on the stanchions. If it's a new bike then the fork and shock seals will take a while to bed in, but the best course of action is to ride it.
