Can any suggest some rack/wheel straps for my bike rack, the Thule ones seem very expensive.

The webbing type? I just use toe straps from old toe clips-have worked fine for years.
Don't bother with bungees or any overpriced Halfords cack.
The Roof Box company, a shop where many STW'ers have bought bike racks and roof bar systems, make their own straps called Fasty Straps. I have ordered stuff from them twice and they send you a free one when you make a big order, so I a=have 2 and they are fantastic. No stretch but you can pull them really tight with no slippage, easy to use and pretty cheap
