Hi All
I've had to replace the threaded headset on my SS road bike and the only one I have is a Campag ahead one.
I've fitted it and there is only space for the top lock ring.
Will this be OK as long as I keep an eye on it or am I going to die horribly?

The locking nut is usually needed otherwise it will all come loose.
Not sure I'm with you - you've replaced a threaded headset with an ahead one but you are using the lockring from the threaded headset atop the aheadset? I doubt this will work well long term - for a couple of reasons. First that you will have the threaded portion of the steerer against the inside of the top race - which is designed to work on a plain steerer. Second, as the top nut is not actually locked against anything it will likely come loose over time. You could perhaps use loctite on the top ring, but in any case I'd place this firmly in the category of a bodge.
So no hideous death then..........If the only concern is it coming loose then I can live with that wh itch regular checks and some semi-permanent loctite
This is only till I find the right sized threaded headst of course
