I think this might be beyond salvage.
2007 Fox32 Vanilla R 140 straight steerer. My Google skills are failing to find a CSU that is not capped at 120mm.
No wonder it's been rattling a bit. Fit it, forget it and ******* it. Not a bad innings of irregular servicing I suppose. 😬
I am stuffed though aren't I?

Well, its not going to improve, but given its a coil fork, then new lube and seals and a generak freshen up and it'll probabky carry on OK
It's hard to see what the issue is, a slight amount of laquer worn down, just keep riding it. Big gouge, fill with nail polish and sand back and keep riding it. Might leak a touch but it's a 16 year old fork.
You'll find it cheaper to buy a new fork than get a new csu ime

It has worn right through the coating and those two vertical lines are where the grooves/slots in the bushings are. There's a noticeable ridge there (maybe 0.1-0.2mm).

Worth applying some nail polish?
I have a seal kit here so no real cost to re build. They've been getting a bit clattery and I've put off servicing them due to other priorities. In hindsight bad decision and the oil in the spring / damaged leg was utterly filthy so it's probably dragged a load of filth down there.
Damper side was spotless 🙄
If you're really fond of them there are a few suspension types who replace stanchions.
RSF in Plymouth
Jtech (I think)
You lot are slipping
We are a few posts in, not one of you has mentioned the state of the grass and not even a hint of "clearly you need a new bike" thus saving me money and keeping Mrs g-d happier but making me feel guilty about eyeing up a new hardtail.
Since noone has suggested imminent firey death I'll finish cleaning them up and put them back together.
Although there ARE some nice bikes around at the minute... 🫣
Totally borked, furry death imminent. I’ll offer a Kit Kat chunky to take them away for you.
Otherwise, sand them smooth and ride them until they die…got plenty miles in them I’d say.
Chris
For reference a Furry death is far worse than a Fiery death…
definitely not an autocorrect error
CRC do a 130mm X-Fusion RC32 for 90 quid. With a 26" wheel in it'll be a similar length overall I think.
