Budget?

I bought a Gore Fusion AS jacket a couple of weeks back, heavily reduced down to £130 else I couldn't have justified it- it's now seen a lot of rain, and been worn in quite a variety of temperatures. It's waterproof, as to be expected, but it's breathability is exceptional compared to my previous Gore jackets.

Then again, I would say that having just spent that much on a shell. 😆

OP finding a waterproof jacket isn't hard, but breathability is so poor that it can easily look like they are letting water in.

I would recommend Altura garments, absolute exceptional value for money and performance in all weathers and all riding from xc to downhill! Highly recommended! 😀

Something eVent. It's the only thing I've found thatI can actually ride (and therefore sweat) in and keep dry.

OMM Kamleika Smock has done me very well, close fitting, stretchy, light, low cut back and quite tough material. Good for All Mountain rides.

Montane h2o. Got one as a pressy and was more than sceptical, it packs down to nothing and is really thin. Then got caught in torrential rain riding the wall in Afan (tip water out of shoes, wring out shorts stuff) and my upper body completely dry. I've had far heavier jackets fail in less.

+1 for OMM Kamleika Smock - that will be my next MTB waterproof once my current one dies.

+1 for the flyte, but it's very warm - no vents.

Still really pleased with my Salomon fast 3. Its kept me and my phone/camera dry in some pretty heavy rain. The under arms aren't waterproof though but that helps air get in and out, and its not really a problem anyway.
