...when riding perfect singletrack, in perfect conditions (which, incredibly, seems to happening on my local trails right now - there, I've jinxed it).

There's an old photo of me on the day I got my first BMX - I always think about it when I'm really enjoying a trail, a thread connecting me to my seven year old self. I sometimes get a bit emotional about it. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Riding or not, I'm always either thinking about norks, pies, beer or multitasking with a utopian vision of all 3

After a particularly fine blast through Hurstwood's wonderful singletrack t'other day I couldn't get that frame from Mint Sauce where his dad presents him with his first bike and he runs toward him with his arms outstretched out of my head.

Miss my dad.
Cried like a fat girl in cake shop on the way home.

But yeah, usually norks.

Aaaargh, possibly 3 years ago, but I couldn't swear to it.

A recurring theme, tbh.

Try asking the man himself - he posts on here now and then.
Might have an email in profile?

Funnily enough, it wasn't that one I was thinking off initially.
There was a flat cap involved, I think.

That's just set me off again though.

God, I love bikes.
Going to be a grandfather soon, so at least I have an excuse!

Thanks anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

My first was a Raleigh Lion, like this:
[img] [/img]

Still amazed when I capture that feeling.
Flying on three wheels, rod brakes n'all. ๐Ÿ™‚

Only a couple of years and I can pass it all on.
Again.

+1 - perfect clear head, nothing on my mind except going fast. Plenty of time to daydream on the climb or the drive home

+2 Simon. Doing techie or fast trails on my bike is possibly the only time I can say my mind is clear. Absolute clarity and focus on the job in hand. Its why I do it really - pure escapism for the mind and soul

I think about my energy output when climbing. Downhill, I'm focussed on the next corner. That's it really.

If I'm really enjoying the trail, I'll sing out loud to myself......often Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas, God knows why

Other than that, nothing. Road bike to fill the head, mountain bike to empty it.

I'm terrible at clearing my head, my brain loops a million things, work, life, death, what happens to molecules when they leave Earth, TV programmes from the mid 90's, what I'm going to name the ride on strava (!!), where are we on a map of the UK.. etc etc

It's a wonder I don't fall off more often tbh.

I think of nothing except trying to stay upright when on the bike, although I do often get random songs going round my head on climbs.
