So off to thetford tomorrow. Are all trails marked out and easy to follow, could have my mates young lad 4yrs with us, he got his first mountain bike from Santa!
Where should we start from and was not to be missed?
park at high lodge to be central for all trails/cafe/toilets etc but it is costly!free parking is about but you need to know your way around.
Would that be at Brandon country park
No - high lodge is the main forest centre with the go ape and segway's etc.
Brandon country park is actually not a bad place to start from though. You can pick up the family routes(blue/green) which head to high lodge easily. From there the red route is a good xc blast with some nice singletrack sections.Black is similar with a few bombholes to play in but can and probably will be a mud bath!!neither is suitable for a 4 year old though!!!!
IIRC Brandon is pay to park also but cheaper than high Lodge.
(personally I don't mind paying if it helps things keep ticking over).
Everything is signed and clearly waymarked from High Lodge in terms of the official trails.
Even a 4 yo on a reasonable bike could tackle most of the trails at Thetford (although the Black is VERY stutter bumpy and/or muddy in sections). Green and Blue are VERY easy going except for the sand. Red is fun but still easy.
If the lad doesn't come with you ride the red+black and session The Beast and Double Shocker (turn right just before the entrance to The Beast for DS). A few big bombholes to play in if you're that way inclined (of the marked up ones the best are probably The Squirrel Scamper and Howes Run, although Madgett's Pit is a laugh too). Either that or head over the Brandon side and explore.

Brandon Country park should only be 70p for all day parking today (should be!) if you follow the blue trail towards high lodge (turn left out of the carpark and cross the main road) you will pick up the green, red and black routes from there.
There is a great deal of tree felling going on and around the blue route on the Brandon country park side so its probably best avoided at the mo...the red and black are good to go though on the high lodge side.
The trail has dried out quite a bit and its mild so you are in for a real treat!!!
