I think that the ones that work best are the ones where everything else on the bike is a very different colour to the sidewall

None of them ^ work. Gopping.

I think silver rims and a light coloured bike are the only way you can make them look decent

Bikebouy, here you go:

[img] [/img]

You were trying to link straight from the imgur gallery, you need the link ending in the file extension (.jpg) for it to work properly.

Strada Biancas are such awesome tyres - to ride as well as look at! Also available in black for you Houns....

Or go one better in the volume stakes and try the Compass Barlow Pass 38 if you have the room!

The OP's unfortunately; it'd look a lot better with black. They look good on some of the pics above mind.

Has anyone got modern skinwalls to run tubeless?

Unfortunately just for show now as the rear one delaminated & I prefer tubeless.

Can't seem to open a thread these days without seeing a photo of CFH's Diverge. Is sort of growing on me though, even with the gobbler.

Think the guards are Specialized ones.

Turbo cottons on my 404's... nice.

Dirtyrider, lovely bike there but the valve caps have to go!

🙂

They are indeed the Spesh ones. Am going to fashion a flap for the front one, as it's a little short.

Turbo Cottons are delicious.

I was never a fan of gumwalls on alloy rims as they go manky really quick, but they stay cleaner on carbons. These Corsa SCs aren't actually proper gum walls, more like yellow rubber, but here they are anyway. Not obvious in the pic but the colour isn't quite 'right'.

You lot know I'm a huge fan of tan wall tyres, after all I go on about them quite a lot and seem to have bought up the nations stock of Challenges UK delivery for 2016 😳

Problem with them is they go manky quickly if you don't look after them. I've found the best way of keeping them clean for longer is to do one of two things before use, from new.
Either:
1) use a tent waterproof sealant. I use fibresil, which came recommended by a Belgian, can't say fairer than that. He's a CXer and finds its the best stuff for prolonging the tan. So I've tried it over the years, it's as good as anything out there but I do jet wash my bike and this penetrates the tyre wall, taking with it mud and dissipating the fibresil. So I get about 6mths out of a set of grifos and by the end of their use they're manky.
2) light tan wax shoe polish. Another tip from a Belgian CXer nutcase, I've tried this too, on a pair of Almanzos, these have yet to get muddy (think hard pack, high rolling dusty trail tyres) also on a couple of pairs of Limus. It's worked better than expected on a few tyre sets, worse on one set (probs because that set were just manky to start with)
It's harder to apply, takes more time than the fibresil, but on par with longevity.

I can't choose between which is best, so I take my fancy once a new set arrives and just do it out of course now. You'll never ever get away without tan walls going manky if you ride off-road and jet wash like I do, I've come to expect that less than perfect look and traded it for a well used look (which is better because I've used the bike)

If ever anyone has better tips than me, post them here and I'll try them out.

Here they are manky..

xcstu I very much like that Ritchey! Apart from the length of the stem - are they still using old skool geometry that 'needs' that length of stem?
