are these any worse than the slx, xt new style in terms of power or is it just a case of cheaper materials and without the adjustment knob?
looking for some new brakes and these are good for my budget.
anyone got any real world experience of using the two sets?
cheers
chaps in 18 suggested that the calliper shape wasn't updated on the new deores in the same way as the new slx's and consequently weren't as good.
can anyone confirm?
and i dont think they have servo wave.
I used the model before these ones, they were absolutely brilliant brakes. Easilly as good as my slx's.

I have a set on my SS and they are great for the money
but are they as good as slx? this is the question...
Got a buddy with the new slx, have a buddy with the new deore, slx buddy tried the deores, thought they were supreme.
Buddy with the deores has just been on a DHing trip in italy, he abuses his bike, does naff all maintenance, is using 160mm rotors, is somewhat of an animal on a bike. After the said trip, buddy with the slx tries the deores that have been hammered, buddy with slx regrets paying the extra for slx.
aha! that's more like what i wanna hear!
might keep an eye open for deores then. heard talk of folks getting them for absolute peanuts recently.
Try rose bikes, they are usually cheapest by a way
indeed. but currently not as cheap as they have been...
I bought a pair of the Deores from Rose - I had the money for XT, but they were on back order.
The caliper shape is the same as the old SLXes - I've a pair of those, too.
Thoroughly happy with the Deores. They do the job perfectly. Possibly not the lightest, but I have to say I've not noticed.
Fantastic cheers guys Deore brakes all the way I feel.
Mine are easily as good if not better than my Elixirs with bigger rotors. So much so that I am saving up for some Zee brakes to replace the Elixirs on my big bike. The leavers feel great and they are definitely powerful enough for normal trail riding. I prefer the idea of Hopes in that you can change parts and easily service them but they are just so much more expensive than Deores.
all ordered £76 from rose bikes with adaptors, bit of a bargain, worth the hassle of changing them over, with adaptors from Merlin was £100, thanks for the input was much appreciated.
were adaptors standard in that price? or would without be a bit cheaper?
sorry edit that was only the front adaptor, the rear was out of stock, that was with a £10 discount for liking them on facebook - they give you a free £10 voucher.
so worked out
front brake £33.15
rear brake £38.25
front adaptor £4.16
postage £7.60
total £83.16
voucher redeemed £10
total inc shipping £73.16. (although paypal worked out at £76)
not bad i reckon i can find an adaptor in my tool box, or if anyone has one fro a rear is to 160pm then let me know
