Our with Junior on Glasgow Riderz group at Pollock this morning. He has deore discs on a lightly used Cube Acid. Original pads and hardly worn. He said that lever was coming back to bars, so I assumed some air in it. We stopped a few mins later and I popped wheel off to find that one pad was completely missing, no back plate, nothing. Split pin still in place correctly, spring rattling, piston out onto rotor but thankfully not right out. Had spare pads with me, so pushed piston back and popped them in. All good. Took them out a wee while ago once bike all washed and dried and piston seems no worse for having rubbed the rotor for 5 mins of use.

So how did that happen ? All I can assume is that the pad broke at the split pin hole and just fell out when braking..... Weird ...

I suspect so too.

Amusingly, I found a pad for my (relatively rare) brakes beside the trails yesterday.

Handy.

I'd say it was probably a squirrel, most likely when the bike was lent against a tree, and you pissed in his back garden.. ๐Ÿ™‚
