Always nice to be able to report on a bit of good service.

I was in the market for a new full suss bike in the spring. While the lower prices from various online sites were tempting I was conscious that I don't know much about full suss MTBs, so wanted to an LBS for advice and backup if things went wrong. I'd also quite like it if they stayed in business as it's handy being able to nip in for small items.

Anyway, EBC looked after me well, talked me through various options, sorted out a demo and I ended up buying a Trance X2 (during one of their 15% off weekends), which I've been very happy with.

Unfortunately, while riding around Pitfichie yesterday, the freehub packed up and I lost drive. Luckily it would catch just often enough for me to limp back to the car.

I took the bike in this morning and they agreed that it was definitely dead, would almost certainly be covered under warranty, but would need to be booked in and left with them. I said that I had a ride planned for this weekend and could they lend me a wheel. Well, they didn't have a spare wheel, but they have lent me a spare bike. A Specialized Carve Comp 29er.

OK it's not a direct replacement for my Trance; a hardtail retailing at half the price. But if I'd bought my bike online I'd probably now be having to deal with the hassle of shipping it back to the supplier and almost certainly having to cancel tomorrow's ride. Instead I get to ride and to see what all the fuss surrounding 29ers is about. Result.

Cheers,

Andy

EBC has always given good service. I've shopped there since about 1995 when it was only in Edinburgh.
