Has anyone done this to a 2018 Pike? Pros? Cons? Worth £150?
Thoughts please?
Do you mean coil conversation? Not done it myself but I’m keen to try it so book marked this thread.
I've done it. Quite a simple conversion to do yourself if you're reasonably handy with a spanner, just follow the instructions. For me it is a night and day difference. Though my Pikes were a big step up from my previous rev's I just felt they were not supportive where I wanted them to be causing me to wash out on some corners on some surfaces. Always put it down to lack of skill. I only really did the conversion because they were due a service because there was as problem with the damper (typical one the early Pikes suffered from) and instead of sending them away for a £100 or so service because the forks are a bit battered and thought I'd spend the money on the conversion kit and service the damper myself as a bit of a project.
So glad I did. For me the fork feels alot more supportive, rides higher up in its travel all over the place, feels alot more bottomless, and you feel you can really lean on the front alot more in bends without the front washing out.
The only downside is a slight increase in weight - about 300g according to the instructions. Didn't do a before and after weigh because I didn't care.
One other thing I've noticed is that it sort of feels firmer when you're not really leaning on the fork, so doesn't seem to give as much as an air shock in the first quarter to third of the stroke, but I quite like this as the improvement is low speed sensitivity makes up for this so they still feel plush but more supportive.
So after being a coil sceptic I'm now a convert and can see the rear shock being replaced at some point in the near future.
