hoping you are taking the piss - i base this on you met parachute thread, your being chuffed you can ride the slab at jizzburn etc 😉
165mm rear rotor and get some mavic Crossmax SX wheels, then run tubeless.
if you hunt around you can get some SX's for 300 ish
hmm Cruz i most certainly are'nt..!
I think a Nomad is too much of a bike unless your riding trail centre's,where they come into their own.
What??
Trails centres with smooth BMX surfaces and swoopy singletrack aka -CyB or Bike Parks with drops, Jumps and NS?
My Alloy Nomad 2 weighs 31.5lb with DHX 5 Ti coil and 36 vanillas, i don't find this a problem for 35 mile day rides in the Peaks/Lakes and North Wales, I also use it for guiding (Scottish C2C 2 x a year) Coaching and occasionally a road ride!
Great bike but it does not need to be light - as Jedi says get your rotational unsprung weight down.
Best all round bike I've ever ridden 🙂 🙂
rear rotor needs to be biggish tho and won't save much weight. Are crossmax that light?
the nomad would be the perfect bike to tackle the slab at gisburn!
a shopper would be!
cruzheckler - Membera shopper would be!
well we are not as fortunate to possess the skill's you have then.
i for one love the challenge of these little sections it makes for a great mountain biking experience.
school holidays alert, people.
lol - if you think a nomad is overkill for all but trail centres then you need to get out into the wilds.
BTW - have you ridden one?
i have'nt had the pleasure of riding one no.
i do ride an ibis mojo though which i love.
so what are you basing your opinion on?
If you're serious about losing weight, the big ones are:
- fork. That'll be a chunk of weight
- tyres
- rear shock perhaps, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
30lbs should be achievable, just about, but not much less than that unless you get silly pimp.
my other half rides one when he can.
Nick - the fork is the solo air lyrik and performs dead well so will stay.
640g and 70g tyres - heavy?
The rear shock is the only thing i may change now (and carbon easton havens should i win some cash!!)
with an outlay of about £30 i have lost .85lb, hopefully putting some nukeproof electrons on it should the lad email me about selling, so £50 will have lost 1.2LB
IF i change the shock to an RP23 then the total loss will be 2.6lb!!
Hi Rob
The sleeper cell finally emerges from lurking for what must be over 6 years.
I'm out riding tomorrow evening if you are interested?

Easton Haven 55mm stem
Easton Havoc Carbon bars
Formula The One brakes, 180mm rotors

would weigh more but handle better if you put tyres on it.
That's a fair point 😉
Knew i'd miss something - Specialized Eskar Control 2Bliss 2.3...
I'm amazed by them actually. Never had Specialized tyres before, always used Maxxis, but read more & more about how heavy they are for their given size, with no other benefits. The Spec's are bigger, grip well & have been flat free and substantially lighter too.
Thumbs up from me 🙂
A black coffee and a dump before you ride, keep the bike........

FAO informer sleeper cell cose - i am keeping the nomadRode again today and am definitely keeping rather than trading in

Cruzheckler - I often think exactly the same as you (too much bike???) mainly due to my mate regularly kicking my ass up and down 🙁 on his Cotic Soul.
Keep the Nomad and do yourself the favour i did last week - Buy a pair of Continental Rubber Queens - 2.2 Black Chilli - Cannot fault them so far! 🙂
Did the 60A tyre on the front make a good difference?
speed wise yes, grip wise noticeably shitter
I sold the DHX 5 Air in the pic and now have an RP23 and find it much smoother and more consistant.
Just an update for any who gives a ****, rode properly today in't peak. Bike felt great - lot lighter and more uphill friendly, as good down so win win 🙂
Tyre / rim alignment needs work. Don't know whether I'm more offended by the total lack of effort with the rear wheel or the nearly-but-not-quite front wheel 😆
lol
Updated for those that give a monkeys:
fail 🙂
My old Nomad 32.8lb really great bike only sold it when I lost my job,
cruzheckler they are a great bike for all round riding fine for xc only bike that would keep up with my mates who are fitter far better riders than me on thier ooober light Xc bikes, I'm riding a Butcher now, has a similar feel to the Nomad wish I still had my DHX5 coil Push'd shock to try on the Butcher.
is that a raw finish? how so?
Cruz it was an anodised finish slate grey 😀 Mk1 Nomad awesome..
Found a picture of mine, not with the Vivid Air on it though - I popped my RP23 & ended up getting a refund on it, and whilst I was deciding what to go for I picked up a Monarch for not very much money.
I've actually been very impressed with it, doesn't blow through it's travel like the RP23 did, yet still feels pretty composed. I know the Mk2 Nomads can have a habit of feeling a little harsh on the chatter bumps - something I have experienced with mine on the RP but less so with the Monarch.
The Vivid Air has really surprised me though. Like everyone, we all want coil performance but without the weight penalty. The Vivid so far, is pretty close.
Get rid of the coil and put a Puhed Monarch on it, that will save 2lb.
You then need to start trimming weight bit by bit. First on days when you want a lighter bike leave the dropper post at home and put a KCNC seatpost on. That will save another 1/2 an lb.
You could save 1/2lb moving to formula R1's with 180mm rotors. If you moved to a BOS Deville, you would save 200 grams over the Lyrik Solo Air.
Then look at getting a lighter seat, A Tioga Spyder saddle will save you 100 grams for 70 odd quid.
Changing to a 10 speed cassette and going to a 1x10 34/36 setup would give you almost as much range as a 2x10 setup and save you another 200 grams.
Stripping the paint and polishing it will save another 100 grams.
So far at a guess this would save you 1700+ grams.
There's more you could do, ghetto tubeless....tune bottom bracket....titanium bolts.....bladed spokes.....all with decreasing returns for the price.
Overall you could get it down to 29/30lb if you REALLY wanted to.
hobnob any chance you are selling the monarch - email in profile
looks good apart from the hoses
Doing well if that's the only negative! 😉
They will be getting trimmed down soon 🙂

If so, tubes and tyres from that lot. That wheelset has a fair amount of heft to it as well.
The rest becomes the law of diminishing returns.
