Looking at the pics in the link, it does look like typical off piste Welsh mud, (which I am used to riding). I can see it being a bit of a bitch for a lot of riders though!
I've only been riding a year now and decided on a whim to do this event. It was very different to the nice, flowy and fast trails I've been doing for the last year. The 1st downhill section I can say without embarrassment I totally bottled as it was way outside my comfort zone. By the time I reached the 3rd gnarly section I'd got a grip of myself and actually enjoyed it - in fact I almost wished I could have another stab at the bit I slid on my arse down earlier!
The organiser has given the riders a real challenge, something different to the manicured trails I'm used to flying around thinking im great. I like to think ill be a better rider for it. There were many moments on the 6500ft of fire road climb that I was thinking ah bollocks to this, but as soon as I finished I was feeling rather accomplished. Plus I managed to finish 20th on my first event ๐
My hat off to the organisers for doing something a bit different. It was by no means perfectly set out but it was what it set out to be - a challenge for people who love to get out into the wild and get covered in muck and smiles
Dunno what you lot are moaning about... I rode it all see!
