A lot of what sounds like booing for Froome.
That gap keeps growing
1km for Pinot! Allez Pinot allez!!
I have to say I much preferred racing in alp d huez in the other direction....
Riding a mtb up the final roads through town made you think a bit about the TdF finishes.
Anyway sky tactics were spot on, early wins make the time and let everyone else stress about it
epic from Pinot
Just think what could have been without that storm in the first week.
And Froome crosses the line, Porte not far behind , good on you Richie.
Yeah first thing Froome did on crossing the line was look for Porte proper mates, smile from Porte said it all
Amazing.
Oh, and well done ITV4 for not having any advert breaks during the climb!!
Quintana will win this in the next couple of years.
Well that was awesome. Put to bed the myth of Froome's indominability but what a team performance to keep him on the top step of the podium. Fantastic from Quintana and from Movistar, did everything they could today.
@msp unless it turns out he is actually 30 already
Yep that is true
I wonder what would have happened without a team member for the last 5k for Froome, I was also wondering if he should/could have struck out alone.
One of the best Tours for a while. Great result. Now I have to go watch my beloved Bokke get their arses kicked by the All Blacks .
It looked like Froome was riding hard enough to limit his losses and win but not so hard as to risk blowing (staring at power meter). I suspect he's not 100% well.
Fantastic stage and great tour. It was good to see Quintana going for it too. I can't wait to see him win next year.
Well done Froome
On the team thing I'm guessing from the last few days poles is there to be the climbing guide next year as the go to guy from the 2 key stages moves on.
But once again sky tactics say it all, from start to end they played their hand very well.
As for quintana did you see how he rode faster than other people? Drugs I tell you drugs, 2 kg of coke and he saw a sniffer dog in the valley
Did Bardet retain polkadot jersey?
I have a question. Why did the sky riders hide the flags on their sleeves at the bottom of the climb?

Did Bardet retain polkadot jersey?
Froome takes it.
@nickhart- Neither poels or porte have been national champs so don't have their flags on their sleeves and hence nothing to hide
Chris Froome won Polka dot jersey as well, first person to win Tour and KOM since Merckx.
Although I think the polka dot jersey was a bit distorted by the points today, I can see why they did it, but it snubs too many other fine efforts on other mountains for me.

But who has climbed the mountains better than Froome and Quintana? Usually it goes to an opportunist who is a decent climber but far from the best. Would probably have been more fitting if it had gone to Quintana - I'm now wondering where Froome gained points on him (I suspect the answer is he kept outsprinting him at the finishes when they were together).

He's clearly had a cough at the finish for several days. Generally worn down - though actually still good enough to drop Contador and almost everybody else.

I don't know, it would have been easier to work out if normal points had been awarded today 😉 Might have ended the same anyway.
The cough has been covered, he frequently has that (EIA), and he always looks at his power meter (stem)
Cheers spawn but I'm sure it was thomas and Roche rolling their sleeves.
@nickhart - I completely missed that. Very odd, have never seen that before. Seems that theres been lots of knobishness to sky riders this tour which is a bit rich that movistar get away with it despite having a known doper in their squad and the team was built out one notorious back in the day for dopers
Maybe just a bit of a who is who game, cover the riders that are not there or convince others that all the climbers are up front
Watched all of it, some excellent adverts with the odd bit of road cycling in between.
Yeah I saw that, def looked like a spit, dirty bastard. Nothing said about it (but my recording of the live show stopped early before they spoke to froome)Someone spat on Froome again???
Good/tense to watch. In the last few km I kept waiting for froome to leave his entourage behind and put the hammer down to close a bit on Quintana but I guess he knew he was on for a win so didn't go mental I case he imploded.
I went out for a short ride while the telly box recorded the first hour or so, so I could skip the ads. Added bonus of actually getting to ride my (road) bike too 🙂Watched all of it, some excellent adverts with the odd bit of road cycling in between.
There were some shitty t-shirt slogans and quite a few people with stiff middle fingers on display too.
Someone spat on Froome again???
Here. Probably one of many not caught on camera. Pretty moronic behaviour. I doubt Froome will give a shit now.
What a great stage. I'm exhausted now after screaming at Thibaut Pinot all the way up
Alpe D'Huez to win the stage! 😀
On one of Quintana breaks, did anybody else spot that spectator pushing Quintana up the hill and Wout Poels pushing the spectator out of the way?
and the Dutch zone looked mental 😯

Yup. Reckon he was within his rights to do it too.

Really did. Noticeable when the Sky group came through they were quieter until Valverde rode past behind them.
Top ride from Pinot. Was willing him to stay away for that last 3km.
Just watched the 12 minute highlights from Froome's 40 minute press conference. Actually comes across as quite personable and 'real'.
Warming to him as a 'personality'.
Also found interesting Brailsford's immediate post-stage comments that once on the bike Froome is just about the most competitive cyclist he's worked with.
Watched it live earlier, now watching the highlights, wonder if Quintana will be able to get a bigger gap this time.
Just noticed someone smacked Quintana with their camera.
Froome was definately a worthy winner as he was in 2013 , pretty shameful scenes over the last week . It seems very unfair that the big stage win in the Pyrenees last week should fuel such speculation in the french press and ultimately lead to the spitting and piss throwing. 🙁 Froome has conducted himself well and deserves the yellow jersey but you cant help but think had Nairo not lost so much time in week 1 he would be in yellow.
Sagan , Bardet ,Thomas, Cummings , Martin and finally Pinault's win were the highlights for me.
Hopefully Quintana concentrates on the Tdf next year as he would be a massively popular winner.
Yep , just watched the highlights and what a great stage .
Tour became boring when LA was just riding behing a whole team and nobody attacking him .
Congrats to Froome .
And as a frenchman , happy with 2 in the top 10 and 3 stage wins .
Hard to know what to do about the crowds, saw the police outriders getting a bit more physical than usual at times (although there is a picture from back in the 50s of one booting a spectator out of the way).
Clearly the massive majority are just there cheering everyone on, but as well as the few direct attacks there are far too many ****s trying to get themselves on TV.
The booing was clearer in the highlights as well hadn't picked up on that watching it live, too engrossed in the race.
But I do think too much emphasis has been put on it in general, it has been a great race and especially the past few days have just exploded with attacks and excitement.
Amazing race, just goes to show that having a team that's completely on the ball at all (or nearly all anyway) of the crucial moments is the difference between 1st and everyone else. Froome won in the end because of time gains he made because him and his entire team were in the right place at the right time almost 3 weeks ago!
Pinault's
Like that 🙂
Great win today, though Bardet's win probably by fave of the Alps.

Caught everyone by surprise using exactly the same tactics employed in 2013! Blast the first big mountain stage when everyone else is finding their climbing legs, then limit losses. (Though made trickier this year by lack of big ITT.)
