Of course just a still but I don't think the Europacar rider had much to do with it.

From what I saw Cav was boxed in and tried moving Gerrans out of his way

Pretty much sums up what I saw, plus sticking his head in as well. Sometimes you just have to accept that you've followed the wrong wheel.

Brilliant opening stage though, people of Yorkshire (and visitors) did the UK proud.

Agree, brilliant opener, big Jens doing what he does, Canc going for it and bit of ding dong. Yorkshire was looking fantastic and should be right proud.

Not sure Yo Kaiser, after that shot the Europcar rider moves across into Gerrans who then bumps into Cav, bringing them both down. Have a look at this still from just before Cav hits the deck:

Even if he can ride I doubt he could contest a sprint against Kittel on anything other than top form.

Any news on Gerrans, I've got him in my fantasy team!

In a team statement, Cavendish said: "I'm gutted about the crash today. It was my fault. I will personally apologise to Simon Gerrans as soon as I get the chance.

"In reality, I tried to find a gap that wasn't really there. I wanted to win today, I felt really strong and was in a great position to contest the sprint thanks to the unbelievable efforts of my team. Sorry to all the fans that came out to support. It was truly incredible.โ€

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step's statement continued: "Mark Cavendish underwent further examination on his right shoulder after today's crash. The imaging underlined ligament ruptures, with an AC-joint dislocation, which causes him a lot of pain. A final decision on his participation in tomorrow's stage will be taken tomorrow morning."

Hopefully see him on the start line tomorrow

These kinda show Cav initiating the move to clear Sagan's wheel and ultimately causing the crash. Thing is if he'd have tucked in he could have had it, Sagan would have led him to the line.

Says he's ok on the OGE twitter feed.

Hopefully see him on the start line tomorrow

With that much damage, I hope he quits and goes and gets properly mended.

I've dislocated my a-c joint. I'd be ****ed if i could ride a bike for 3 weeks after that, that he's even thinking about it shows how hard some of these blokes are.

If it's a grade 1 I suspect that he'll ride on. There was no obvious step around his shoulder, so it'll hopefully not be too serious.

Aye, but Cav is still up right and has his balance at that point. You need the next few shots in the sequence I think. He only starts to go down after Coquard moves in and squeezes Gerrans.

Cav and Gerrans were leaning on each other, balancing on each other. Then Coquard comes over and leans on Gerrans causing a clash of wheels and they went down.
I don't think any one should be blamed*, it's just racing.

*but if anyone is guilty it's Coquard.

You only need to look at the rider positions relative to the white lines to see Gerrans is forced over.

I think you'll find that Coquard was defended his line from Gerrans who is being pushed by Cav. Doesn't matter how much we wanted Cav to win it, he started the sequence of events that backfired on him. Even Cav admits it.

Can we agree that Cancellara's move was just not cricket and poor form all round?

I don't think he would have won anyway - which makes the crash, and his probable exit from the Tour worse.
Yeah, Cancellara is getting desparate in his old age.

Can't stand Cav. Glad he's out. Tries to headbutt anther rider (as he's done many times before), and comes unstuck. Good. Now hopefuly we'll see some cleaner sprints. And not have to endure his whining arrogance throughout the tour. At least he's done the decent thing this time, and admitted it was his fault.

the actual Cav v Gerrans action was initiated 50m earlier

Cav was Sagans wheel, Gerrans tries to push Cav of the wheel but Cav bounces back onto Sagans wheel, Gerrans then tries again Cav pre-empts by leaning in to Gerrans (the head butt everyones sees on the video), they both drift into the Europecar rider and then boom they are down

watch the replay from 600m out and you can see what I describe, what is difficult to see is Cav on Sagans wheel because of the angle and that he is so small.

Gerrans is playing dumb and Mr nice guy, he knew what he was doing and the risks

Cav has admitted it was his fault. Which it was. Case closed. Now we can enjoy a whine-free tour. ๐Ÿ˜€

and Gerrins says it's just racing so storm in the internet.

The Omega guys say Cav will race if it's not broken and it's been suggested it's not.

A little aggressive lean in and perhaps a little flick of the back wheel in the final dash and hey presto the rest of the summer off with your wife and kids, no pressure to perform and everyone's saying 'tough luck about your injury, next time perhaps.' Kick back open a beer.

Obvious troll is obvious, no one is going to be harder on Cav than he'll be on himself. Always wants the win, respect's the work done by his team too much to want anything less.

Are you insane? It was awesome and very nearly worked. It was exactly the type of attack I would have expected from Cancellara on such a finish.

Having watched the replay now Cancellera's move was definitely worth a go, he might have made it too. The more attacks the better!

Stuck with him - part of the game. I chose Sagan as the same cost, I also have teams on 2 other fantasy leagues where I did have him but can change riders in those ones.
