I have some heavy scoring on my Fox Talas forks but as they aren't yet leaking, I would mind just changing the seals out for peace of mind. My question is though, does the Talas chamber have to be deflated to changer the seals out or can I just remove both lower nuts and then remove the upper caps without the Talas system releasing 150psi into my face? The Fox website videos are a little vague on this.
I don't remember it doing so. I empted it once and had to do a refill with a compressor but I didn't need to when I changed the seals and oil.
you can service a set of talas forks without touching the talas side. Just remove the lowers and the damper. Add oil to the talas side, as per the fox site, when the lowers are back on. The damper side is handled, for the most part, as described.
No you can service as normal, the Talas system will just lift out of the leg as a single unit.
ps if you do decide to dismantle the talas unit, I found you could pressurize it with a football needle and a shock pump and a friendly pair of hands. The trickiest bit is getting the adjustment lever in the right position, found the fox instructions useless, trial and error without the locking ball bearing first. Mark the position reassemble with the bearing.
Thanks, was a tad weary of the Talas unit exploding out when I loosened the 26mm cap. Might just leavi in in situ though if I can get by, it seems to be working flawlessly anyways. Thanks again all.
