Previously I've only looked at NZ / Oz where you have to clean your bike to avoid an expensive jet washing.

What (if any) rules do you have to comply with for Canada?
Thanks in advance!

Stepson washed his bike off today to make sure, as he's off to Whistler on Thursday.

I clean mine so as not to mucky up the inside of the bag. No other reason.

Though if I was flirting with the weight limit... every gram counts...

A clean is appreciated by customs if they ask but it's not NZ / Oz in terms of expectations. They've only asked once in 8 years.

Excellent news

It's a 40ft container, not a bike bag luckily - all rather sudden, so the thought of immaculately cleaning all my bikes, my wife's bikes & now my daughter's bikes in a few weeks was somewhat offputting.

You'll have to make a declaration about visiting farms, that's about it.
If you are coming in with residency make sure you inventory everything and declare it's following you when you go through immigration.

Ah. If it's for residency than in my experience they are a little stricter. The customs agent specifically asked me if I'd cleaned my bikes throughly. I had so was able to answer in the affirmative.

Bearback is correct in needing to declare following goods for immigration. Don't expect the container to be speedy either. Where are you heading to within Canada?

I didn't have a problem taking my (pretty grubby tbh) bike in when I moved out

Headed to Nova Scotia. So at least it's the nearest seaport for the container. I'll probably send all but one bike in the container, and take one on the plane.

Yes - all things to be inventoried (the shippers will do this when they pack the house), but I'll give the bikes a 'good' clean, if not a full strip and decontaminate like for NZ!

Cheers!

Give it a good clean regardless of the rules. Ash dieback is prevalent in parts of the UK and even advised to clean bikes if you go between different parts of the country.
