[#11094748]

Been offered a good deal on one by LBS (Banjo, Newbury) want to swap my bike and mrs anagallis bike on and off, both are due new cassettes and chains so was going to do that and get a third cassette for turbo is this likely to work ok, different chains and cassettes tend not to mate well amd skip ime. Friend of mrs said using it in ergo mode will help, whats that then? Also can you easily swap quick release and thru axle? Also Also Lap top doesnt have bluetooth, can I just get a dongle or can I play all of Zwift on my phone Android 8 Galaxy S7.

Obviously I will ask shop but want to get in before lock down so would appreciate any info.
A wheel on smart turbo would be simpler and easier but want to support lbs.

Got a flux S. Yo can swap between QR and thru axle but not quickly...it involves some spannering to replace the spacers. Takes only a minute or two.

You can go through Zwift on your phone...that's how I started but better through an Apple TV if you can get one of those of eBay.

Think ergo mode is where it stays at a constant and target power and adjusts resistance to maintain target power. I use training plans and sometimes ergo is used, sometimes it isn't.

It's been a good bit of kit for me so far. Not got alot of time on it so can't give you a review based on alot of use...but from what I've used so far it works great and has all the functionality you could ever need.

You can play Zwift on the phone and cast it to a big tv... Or use laptop (cheap dongle from eBay) and hdmi it to a tv etc. Much, much better on a big screen.

Don't worry too much about ergo, it's there if you need it.

*Do* check out axle compatibility as you might need to buy converters,or worst, it might just not fit.

I don't own the taxc but this applies to all turbos, check they fit your bikes.👍

I had three Flux S’s. In a year. The first one wouldn’t connect to anything, the second one had a squealing belt that just got worse and worse and the third one had a collapsed bearing somewhere near the free hub. Maybe I just got unlucky.

Swapping axles isn’t that easy, bit fiddly but it can be done. Just don’t lose the spacer. Connectivity (apart from the first one) was fine with a ANT+ dongle.

ERG is good for the training workouts. So you can stick in any gear and just ride to the requested power.   I guess your mate is saying if you can find a non slipping ratio, you’ll probably be okay.

Mine fitted fine to a CX bike with disc calliper out back. That was a 135x9.

I swapped my last one for an Elite Directo which I much prefer, but like I say I might just have been unlucky. The Tacx only had 10% gradient so it would match a couple of the silly climbs in Zwift (but then it was good for legal cheating at that point).

‘Tis not a problem.

I swap axles on a Flux 2 with my fingers (no spanners) - a minute or two to do.

I bought a second freehub so I could swap cassettes (leaving them on the freehub) with a 5mm Allen key - a minute or so more.

Taking the rear wheel out and aligning the dropouts on the trainer probably takes longer.

Sorry I have a Flux 2 not an S.

I didn't bother trying to match the cassette ratios with my bike one so long as it shifts fine. Got a 34 cassette on my bike, and a 32 cassette on my Flux as that was a spare I had and didn't want to buy another. Really as good as these things are they are nothing like cycling in real life...like running on the treadmill vs. running out in the real world so not fussed about gearing...it's close enough.

Having read what Garmin did to Tacx owners after a firmware update borked their machine (basically disowned) I decided against buying one.

Just bought a reconditioned Kickr direct from Wahoo, worthwhile investment now I’m not getting commuting miles in.

Just put youngest’s 8 speed on the Flux taking the 11 speed that his brother had been using off it.

Simples
