I’m just spending some time speccing dt Swiss wheels to be built on action sports and the last option is symmetric or asymetric, which do I want
Boost 29er going on a Hightower V1
Also reading threads I’ve gone for 350 hubs 481 rims with competition spokes and brass nipples
Last wheels I got built were 26” and things were simpler then lol, and cheaper
Thanks in advance
Oh and I was going to run 2.3 continentals do you think I’d be better with the ex471?
The theory with Asymmetric rims is that it lessens the dish and therefor evens out forces being put through spokes on the drive / non-drive side making them stronger. Could all be marketing BS though.
The rear triangle on my Cannondale is offset, which means you can take a normal rim and dish it in such a way that it's "Asymetric" to a normal wheel, which is another way around the problem, but it means I buy new wheels I need to get the rear re-dished before it'll fit.
might be its a placeholder option on the build menu as DT don't make asymmetric rims beyond road and XC race options. There's no spoke hole offset.
Assume you've chosen brass pro head nips though as these work in conjunction with the required phr washers.
2.3 Contis recommend 23-27mm rims, I'm running mine on on both 421(25mm) and 481(30mm) and bth are fine.
I'd choose 481 over 471 personally.
just went through the actionsports build thing and its - as Mark has it - for offset rear ends like his Cannondale.
So, no, you don't want that
Thanks, my google skills are poor lately and I couldn’t find any reference to off set wheels and Hightower’s
