I have a Kona Cinder Cone 2008 model (19inch frame) and would like to get a lighter and better functioning front fork. I have looked around and am struggling to find a suitable fork for the money I want to spend on it which is around the £100 nark. It currently has a Dart 3 which is very basic and very heavy. Ideally I wanted something new or certainly in good condition but the lowest price thing I can see is the RockShox Reba 100mm that fits the criteria of weight & size etc but the cheapest I`ve seen it is around the £250 mark at Merlin/CRC. I have tried to research other possibilities and would consider Manitou, Fox etc.
Travel wise would I be limited to 80 & 100 or could this carry off a 120 maybe also. I have considered selling the bike and starting again but these bikes are possibly only worth maybe what a brand new set of forks would cost new. I do have a pair of Marzocchi bombers MXC 2002 air which I`m sure would be an improvement on the Dart 3s but these are pretty old school and have no lockout which ideally I would like and need a service/oil change.
Any ideas/suggestions/inspiration would be welcome 🙂
I am looking at general xc riding and have done a few trail centres which were ok although the bike did feel like it took a bit of a hammering on sections of the Dalby Forest course where I would have appreciated a full sus and Cannock/Sherwood pines but I don`t hit the trail centres that often on it.
do the service, put the marzocchis on it,magnitudes better fork 😀
Yes, good idea 🙂 if I get them running I will give them a go first. I will order some 7.5 fork oil. They aren't that responsive at the moment and are quite squelchy? I've been looking on eBay at some Reba's, they look to be going for around £100 but its a risk with forks I think. Unlikely new forks will be under £200. It seems forks cost almost as much as my bike did. Prices have gone up 🙁
