Thought I'd share a bit of info about them as SS stuff gets quite a variety of comments here.
Having needed to replace my Mavic xc717 rim I figured I'd give the XC430 rim a go as Mavics have got quite expensive and I couldn't justify Stans Arch to the wife.
ordered up (£22, bargain)and next day it arrived well packaged.
The rim itself is nicely finished, single eyeletted and have the same ERD ad the xc717 meaning I could reuse the spokes (they were built for about 2 months, so OK) and are a gnat's chuff wider. Fishing around will reveal they are re-badged Alex XCR 100D's.
Building them (albeit with an old Hope XC hub) was OK. Didn't go together as smoothly as I'd hoped, but I put that down to the hub being old, seeing several rebuilds and the DT revs being a little stretchy especially having already been built. I don't think it's anything to do with rim quality.
They feel a bit softer to build than the Mavics, but not quite as soft as Stans, meaning that you have to pay more attention to that little bit extra here or there, but it ensures the build is good and tight.
I built mine up with DT revs and alloy nipples, not everyone's choice, but I build wheels, so don't mind having to rebuild them if they seize up.
First ride on them this morning, still true, feel like rims feel. Don't notice any difference from the XC717.
Long term I don't see why they'd not perform, most of the damage I do to rims is during the first few rides. We'll see how they fair.
Anyone else had any experiences of building these?
