I had the same problem with one of my cranksets which have a particularly tight thread. The superstar pedal threads visually look a tighter fit than my other pedals.

It must be user error - after all everyone knows there is never anything wrong with octoporn products.

Well that will be the answer you get from him.

Are you screwing the right pedal into the right crank? Seems odd they fit one Shimano crank and not another Shimano crank - even if they are a different model.

used to cycle past old arthurs flat on way to school in the 70's*
not a man of many words usually a nod and a wave with secateurs*
as he sometimes visited the art gallery i worked at on a saturday*

did look into distance once and say "beware pedlars pedalling pedals on the internet"++

guy at superstar (Neil?) told me i must have modified my brakes when holes on pads were undersize*

*all true
++false

ps barryb was funnier and more succinct

Sorry I sent that on my iphone, in all seriousness I've done a lot of work on bikes in my time and a year of bike mech in a shop and I've never come across a pedal that threads are as bad as the match of superstar nanos and xt's

I'll get the thread cleaning tool out tomorrow and just double check the cranks are clean but they look very clean to my eye.

1 pedal went on totally fine on the driveside of one set and the other 3 sets wont even get started.

joke if you like im not being a mong, there is something a miss with the pedals as 5 other pairs of different brands work perfectly.

Cheap pedals in poor quality control shock!

how bad can the quality be its only an axle, im sure 100s if not 1000 pairs have been sold over the years and the axles are the same tolerance as wah wahs so dont see it, unless there is a known dodgy batch

"they do from negus"

Are we any closer to understanding what this means?

maybe the axles have the wrong thread on them, so your left hand pedal has the thread for a right hand pedal on it?

You're very unlucky to have recieved a dodgy pedal as many on here have bought them and i havn't heard of this happening to anyone else.

we'll like i said the driveside of one set went on one crank no worries no hassle. the other 3 pedals wont even get a thread on to start (the problem) but they will all go on from behind (which is pretty useless, ha!) but at least the threads are fine, im guessing its down to the xt cranks having a poor start thread after being used previously from other pedals... weird for it to affect 2 sets of cranks with 2 sets of pedals tho.

File the end threads of either the pedal or the crank.

The fact that they thread in from the other side, which won't be worn, does say it's probably the cranks IMO.

"Lil' Cthulu eats his followers. Their souls make his tummy happy" - Awwww!

A Call of Cthulu TV series would be better than a movie IMO.

I've never heard of a thread wearing tighter, only looser - but then I'm mystified how they could go in the wrong end but not the right end!

I've known threads to become damaged over time and stop taking a bolt easily... Little bits of corrosion, wedged-in muck, bits of leftover bolt (more common with alloy bolts mind) squashed threads from side impacts etc. I mean, logically you'd normally blame the pedals regardless of whether or not they were cheap but there's not much the pedal thread can do that'll mean it goes into one end of the crank thread but not the other, whereas there's loads of things the crank thread could do to cause that.

To the OP. How did you resolve this issue? Did you clean out the threads on the crank or did you return the pedals? i have exactly the same problem. New Superstar Nano flats which won't fit two different sets of cranks but will fit a 3rd. What confuses me is that I have tried 3 other sets of pedals on those same cranks with no problems.

He must have cleaned the cranks cos the pedals are currently on his bike, unless he glued them on.

The superstars I bought worked fine with my cranks but they are some of those old hones with the steel pedal inserts.
