We did this a few weeks back and people enjoyed it. So, once again, what were your little victories out on the bike today?

New saddle - and it seems a step in the right direction, although another on order.

First proper off the bike in Labyrinth at Swinley, caused by a combination of incorrect brake setup and hubris.

Even so, first sunny dusty ride of the year, and I went for a jump for the first time. It was so successful that I went for more! I suspect it wasn't particularly impressive to watch, but there was definite time in the air and I felt in control the whole way through 🙂

Only 2 hours for me but it felt great to be out without multiple layers.

I did a hard 30 miles off road today. But having been fiddling and testing the bike set up over the winter I reckon I may have nailed it.

I also have finally hit the hang of a proper bunny hop! Flat pedals too!

First time out on the new MTB and first time on any bike in 5 months. Not lost as much fitness as I feared but leg endurance needs built up a wee bit again. First 10 mins or so was a bit hesitant but settled into it again quicker than I hoped and it was soon like I hadn't been away (except for fitness levels!).

^ totally agree. Took my cannondale scalpel out on Friday after only riding my fatbike during the winter. It went like a missile but no grip 🙂

Managed a drop off into gully that I have always felt to be only marginally in control in the past. Today I actually felt I rode it rather than survived it if you get my drift. Worked out that my entry speed was higher because I was feeling confident on the bike and this made all the difference.

I did have a pratfall SPD moment about 10 minutes later just to provide balance and the required entertainment for my fellow riders

I totally shredded the local tow path:

And then found that most rare of rare beasts, a properly built jump in my local woods!

(normally, all "kids built" jumps will have at least 3 of the following traits:

1) A sharp uphill corner, immediately prior too, or after, the jump
2) A ridiculously short transition and steep ramp
3) Either no lip at all, or one so steep it sends you into space
4) Built out of the looses, softest, least strong earth availible
5) If it has a "gap" it will be at least 30 feet long, and filled with rusty wash machines or hungry underfed Crocodiles, and often both)
6) The landing ramp will generally not be in line with the take off, or will require to you narrowly avoid a large tree/fence/pissed off walker (delete as appropriate)

Astonishingly, the jump i found was perfect for none awesome people like me to learn on:

😉

(karma, got it's own back on the ride back home, when i went to bunny hop up an 18" wall, miss timed it completely, and had a "stem - groin" interface. Ouch, thank god i don't want kids eh.... 😉

Obviously the recent "how to ride drops" thread on here has worked it's subliminal magic and turned you into a terrific dropper! 😉

Must have been really powerful subliminal juju as I hadn't seen it!

I think "terrific dropper" is being pretty generous. What I need to do is go back and do it a few times more to prove it wasn't a fluke. I could sell tickets.

Three crap nights with our 1 year old had left me with zero motivation and nearly falling asleep on the bike this morning. Abandoned the training ride a few miles in and headed for home. I was utterly defeated so something/someone must have been victorious 🙁

Getting the motivation to abandon well-known local loops and head out a bit further in search of decent cheeky stuff. Some of it was alreet, the most promising bit on the satellite turned out to be mostly a foot deep rut in the heather - too narrow to pedal through, cue 2km of pushing 😥

Still, lovely weather, decent long ride, all good.

We found a brilliant bridleway a few miles from home-

In the lower right of this pic there was a fluffy something or other asleep in its burrow 😀

We also made it to the transporter bridge, yay-

but it was closed for maintenance, boo-

The other week I dismantled two anti-MTB barricades in some woods local to me. They were fairly big, about thigh height and made up of 10-15 branches and logs each. It took me about five minutes to do each, but it threw all the bits in different directions and broke some up, so I reckon it would take someone at least twice as long to put them all back. Small victory indeed, but they've not gone back up yet. They'll give up before I do!

No punctures & no dog faeces caught up in anything.

That's all I ever really look for in a ride (oh, that and not being knocked off & run over of course).

Second ride on my new CX. I've been off the bike in earnest for months since breaking my arm (few 15-20km local rides) but knocked* 60km out today.

* knocked meaning struggled through the last 1/3 of.

Got caught out with a drop-off today, but managed to save it by doing a proper endo down the trail for 15 meters before landing the back wheel. Had a big grin on my face feeling chuffed and karma got it's own back for me not falling off and I washed out on the next corner 😆

Had my first ride in dry, dusty conditions since september around Cwmcawn and found my efforts at not getting drunk too often and getting some winter training in were successful (easier said than done when a student!).

All the tracks (cafell, pedalhounds then the old xc track over to the dh track) were running the best I've ever seem them, pedalhounds and the cafell xc descent both running noticeably better after a winter to bed them in.

Next goal, clear that ****ty right hand switchback at the top of the old DH black run. The one where you need to hop right up onto the bank to make it wide enough. 😯

Came down a pretty fast descent through the trees and unexpectedly got the biggest air I have ever got . Some scrote had put a jump in since I last rode there . It was all over and dusted before I had time to crap myself , had I seen it I would have probably braked or tried to ride round it . Although it was my biggest air ever and felt massive it was the sort of jump most people do without even giving it a second thought . Still achieving new things at 58 woohoo .

Today's post local ride task - a quick clean of the chain and squirt of lube - not even any mud of the tyres - result!

Amazing session at a special place for riding.
Got to have a laugh with some mates and spent the afternoon chasing each other down the trails. Great fun jumping and finally cleared a few sections I hadn't done before

Riding sections my mate won't. He's a faster rider, I'm a better technician, so I like finding bits he won't do to keep my ego boosted 😆

Oh and just generally having a grand day out around the golf course, it's actually dry!

Not that much, tired teenager stopped play- 3G and Boner up top and a bunch of the lower level trails. Took two hours to notice I still had my fork locked out from comrie pump track, what a fanny.

How had I not done nyny the sequel before, btw? Loving that.

PS, if I accept your strava-stalk, does that mean I have to read all your rides too? I think that's why I unfriended everyone on there, I can barely be bothered to read mine. That, and I don't like humans.

ha ha... no. just don't follow me back and I'll promise to try not to comment on your rides or give you any kudos. 😆

we just did a loop taking in both sides of the valley. climbed up and rode spleene twice so my mate could crash in the rocks before the drop each time.. first time I'd ridden that, sooo good to ride something up the golfie with intentional doubles 🙂 then we just rode aussie and lower jawbone then into the cafe at walkerburn before heading up to ride a mix of the IXS and some older DH tracks on the otherside.

MC was with us for the first bit before making his excuses and keeping himself hidden away from humans for the rest of the day.

dunno what nyny the sequel is (I'm not too great with trail names)

You gave me kudos before, I think that's why I unfriended you, it was just weird.

Sequel- That's what it's called on strava anyway- you know that new section quite near the bottom- there's a fairly wide pumpy section that runs across the corner from the quarry? (near the bottom of offender etc) Straight on from that. Nothing techy, just no straight lines ever. Kind of assuming it's by the same feller that did nyny.

I don't know the other side much, tbh I don't ride there often enough to get bored of the ones i know, take it it's worth a look?

Ah.. had a look at that on the climb.

By other side I meant other side of the tweed. ie. Traquair and Elibank.. you've surly ridden most trails there.. thought you'd have helped build the IXS?
But the other side of Caberston has a lot of good trails too. like I said tho, I'm not great with their names.

must remember never to compliment you.. not too difficult a task for me TBH. 😉

Golfy was running great today! Hero dirt flattering me into believing I can drift.

Now I just need to get some fitness back after not being able to ride for about 6 months....

Little victory was just getting out in the sun and finding I could still chuck a bike down a nice steep hill. Had so much fun today.

Little victory? Yesterday was a massive earth-shattering victory. Blue skies, (mostly) dusty trails and feet that weren't frozen at the end of the ride. Having slogged through the winter in all manner of horrific weather and conditions I felt like I earnt that.

Back to cold drizzle today though 🙁

Hit 47mph and got in the strava top 10 on a well known descent near my house. Got home and found my front wheel QR wasn't done up properly. I'll take that as a victory of sorts.

squeezed a short road ride in despite social commitments - front shifter jammed solid - a bit of fiddling and reset cable tension to hold on middle ring so no need for a pit stop but without the big ring failed to set a lap record
