Went out and did a local loop of 18 miles down here on the southern edge of Dartmoor. I fitted my Bontrager xr3/xr2 summer combination tyres, boy was that a mistake ๐ The tracks were as muddy and slippery as mid winter round here and just to add to things the bloody brambles are rampant!! Anyway rant over, the ride was strangely very enjoyable. ๐
Heh. Same experience here - I just had to limp out of Lustleigh Cleave with a mashed ankle after losing the front wheel on the descent from Water. It was of course completely the fault of the tyre and nothing to do with running out of talent ๐
I've just fitted a new set of mud huggers to my bike.
I had a Shorty front and HR2 rear this morning, needed all the grip I had, but then I live in Scotland ๐
My first response to the thread title was going to be 'you should try living in the sunny south west', but south Dartmoor catches the rain, so you're screwed.
As for 'water', well, the clue is in the name!
Ridden haldon today. The rain over night has damped down the dust nicely. Grippy!
Yeah descent from Water is always wet but this was one of the drier bits (left hand turn by the stable after the really wet bit pas the 1st gate. I've watched the gopro footage and I'm still at a loss as to what really happened - one minute I'm turning and the next "understeer" And then it digs in and catapults me sideways. I've got some lovely footage of the forest canopy though ๐
Hope your ankle recovers ok slowbloke. Haldon does drain pretty well Del, maybe we can consider this good practice for winter. ๐
Would'nt want to get too spoilt on dry tracks would we.
I do hate brambles though !!!! ๐ฟ
South Cotswolds just drying out in places (going through the sticky-plasticene stage), other bits still a bog. . Still on the winter tyres, looking at the rain outside can't imagine taking them off in '16. Still love the mud when its warm(ish).
