Quick straightforward advice needed.

I want to go tubeless and have the wheels. I want to run summer tyres, then winter tyres the swap back as the seasons change.

Whats the deal with sealant etc; do you bin it, wash it out, how do you store the tyres till the next season?

With best intentions, no smart answers like shred em in six months so no need to store, tubeless is redundant, solid tyres are the way to go, ride the same tyres all year around cos I ride rock gardens and gnarly all the time ( its Hertfordshire here not the Alps and I need all the help I can get being 50).

Cheers in advance.

Use milkit valves and syringe, suck sealant into syringe, change tyres, inject sealant, pump up. 5 minute job.

Sealant (the water/latex ones) degrade in two ways: ย the latex polymerises out, and the water and ammonia evaporates. ย  These things probably take place at different rates, the difference differing with temperature and stuff. ย So changing the fluid completely every six months, with a top up in between is probably a good idea.

I just take the old tyres off, decant most of the fluid, put it in the new tyre, and top up. I'm cheap, but it's worked for the past 2.5 years for me ๐Ÿ™‚

What submarined said, except 5 or so years.ย  For storing the tyres I just stuff them wherever there's space in our storage.

I use the cap off a GT85 can to collect the old jizz. Scoop round the inside of the tyre. Re-use if it looks ok.

Then wipe the tyre round with paper towel, hang it up in the garage to store.

I pop a bead off then use a dosing bottle to suck out the residual sealant.ย  one of these:-

Then swap tyres, install valve, bung the rescued sealant out of the above bottle and pump up.. away we go!

Re-use. It always looks fine to me.

The removed tyres get rinsed off with water and left to dry. Doesn't really matter if there is a bit of dried sealant in there. Maybe if there are big lumps on the bead they'll get pulled off, but stuff inside just gets left.

I re-use too.ย  Not seen any issues.ย  I use a syringe to do this.ย  They are available on ebay for peanuts and are endlessly useful in bike maintenance - particularly dispensing sealant, bleeding brakes and servicing forks.

But do wipe up as much sealant as you can before hanging them up.

So scoop up my old Jizz with a syringe and tissue, stuff it somewhere the wife wont see it, milk it out, rinse the rubber out with water, hang it up to clear the ammonia.............. will Captain Jazz Mag (remember Viz) cum to my rescue?

Generally when I swap over the Stans has reduced in volume and gone brown so I just put fresh in. The only time I have reused sealant is the only time it did not seal properly and left me with a walk home! Also highly recommend the Dynaplug kit for repairing punctures in tubeless - expensive but simpler and more effective than other kits I have tried....
