What are the family graded trails like for kids. Daughter has been cycling for around a year now properly what are the family graded trail centre trails like ?

Any suggestions for good routes im in Yorkshire but get around to the Lakes 7 Stanes etc etc. I have good local riding but it needs tobe linked with some road work , which im not keen on taking her on.

Cheers

You maybe o.k in the Gisburn forest trails in Lancashire (eeek crossing the border). There are some little humps, bridges, berms and small up and down bits, which taken slowly should be fine, all on the blue.

I would definitely take my nephew on it and he's just turned 7.

Another vote for Gisburn Forest. It would be worth the drive from you.

I currently live in Cheshire. Over here there is Delamere Forest which is fine but not worth a lengthy drive, all the North Wales stuff (Llandegla has a family friendly route.)

Also the Peaks. Possibly something like the Tissington Trail. Not the most exciting of rides on a disused railway line (Rails long gone!) but some nice views.

Clumber park and Sherwood pines were both really good when ours were younger.

Llandegla blue is a little more challenging for when kids are a bit more confident. In fact, Llandegla is good for progressing for kids - blue then red then black as skills improve, plus the skills and jumps areas with obstacles going from teeny to big.

Glentress definately worth a trip. Green route is great for kids although getting them back up the fire road can be a pain. Also got the skills loop and the easier bits in the freeride. You can also do the bit of blue above the freeride and the blue return from the Buzzards nest. Our lad is six and has done all of these bits loads of times. He's also done little bits of the red when we've been sprinkling Fairy dust on them 😉

Gisburn is always popular with our kids - they've both been riding stuff there since about age 5. Not had them around the full new top loop yet.....

If going further afield then Kirroughtree green then blue once a bit older. Bits of Dalbeattie red with fire road links. Threlkeld to Keswick on railway path (cafe stop in Keswick) then return. Rivington lower tracks. Forest at the Clitheroe end of Longridge fell. Llandegla. Coed Tralwm (spelling?)in mid wales is kiddy sized but middle of nowhere. Lots of places really - just take plenty of chocolate and apply often.

And family riding just gets better from here on! - at weekend eldest nearly 8 just managed a good chunk of North Face trail unaided 🙂

as per the suggestions above really without travelling too far.

Just watch out they don't get in the way of TJ else they'll get a kick in the face! 😉

If you are ever in the south west then Haldon Forest near Exeter is good. My 11 yo nephew found the blue trail 'too easy' so probably right for a 6 yo.

One happy seven year old at Sherwood Pines, yesterday. It was his first ride on 'proper' trails and he loved it. 🙂
