Ok I understand it was causing the site issues, BUT when are you going to do some-thing about it?

The google search (even the advanced) is an almost complete waste of time (IME).
How are you supposed to search the classified for item you want? You can't with any success, this leads to more ppl being fustrated and posting wtd ad's, or repeating the same subject endlessly (I know this will happen to a certain extend anyway but..)

Any kind of time scale?

Starting to think I could live with the "slow down's" (hamster shortages) in order that we have a decent search facility.

Use this page

http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en

fill in the search words etc.

At the bottom where it says Domain: - enter http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/forum/classifieds for a classifieds search or http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/ for a general forum search etc.

I think the upgrade to a new server is probably a prelude to a change to the search.

Given that the classifieds accounts half of all the threads on the site I can't help thinkign that only keeping them for a month or so woudl reduce db size and speed up non-indexed searches.

I really like the new website and after the hacking of last year did have to change servers. But got to agree, the new search is rubbish, just cant seem to find things I know I've seen before.

Agree with the deleteing old classified.

uplink, that doesn't work very well at all as it seems to avoid what it considers to be repeated threads and also it doesn't sort them by date order properly, even if you use the date selection on the left
.
as I understand it this is a temporary measure as the search facility was killing the servers and causing a slowdown of the rest of the site

Ogg that loads better but the top three post that appear

1st - 1 Month old
2nd - 11 months old
3rd - 5 months old

Not exactly helpful...

Yep classifieds that are > 1 month old should be deleted.

How about a read only archive forum for old / classic threads?
This could then be separated from the live forums.

Maybe I'm being a bit thick, but the search function is working perfectly for me ๐Ÿ˜•
