Just to let you know that if anyone needs proper B&B accommodation (and guiding down to the start of the ride!) I have a double bedroom available for both the 7th and 8th November. £25/person (no extra for single occupancy) included is a very good quality cooked breakfast as well as cereal and the rest...should be enough to slow you down for the first climb on the ride!! Details in the user profile. Mention STW if you book though as I'll reserve this room for someone who is doing this ride (just to make sure I'll get to go on it too and not stuck making pancakes for some grumpy walker!
We'll be coming past your place so you could have a lie-in 😉 You;d miss the pre-ride socialising / faffing, though 🙂
can i come please........ 😀
ton - you are very welcome. Which bike though?

that would be telling.... 😉
Now I have three options for this weekend. This might be the one though as Ali might fancy it!

Shall we make it a singlesped ride or a ragley ride? 😀
Mrs NBT and I have been out for a recce ride today. 23.5 miles, just over 2000 feet of climbing and one puncture in 5 and a half hours.

the route might vary on the day - if it's lashing down, or if people are struggling. we should know before we hit Hayfield how the ride is going and we can make alterations on the fly if need be.
Unlike the Ogden water ride, there's very little in the way of flat riding - it's mostly either up or down. As a result, it's going to be hard work - we're both knackered now! We rode to and from the start point - only 1.5 miles each way, 250 ft of climbing, but we had a couple of shandies in the pub last night and the late night has taken it's toll - honest! I'll be asleep before 9, the way I feel now!
Bump for the office workers. Comments on the proposed route?
Given my pish-poor riding performance in the Q's this weekend I expect to be booking a taxi home from about half way round 😳
However - I will be there!

one puncture per 2 people ?? Yikes!

LOL - don't joke!

one or two - tbh I struggled a bit with the translation from the 'day job' - 'F4, keep an eye on composition and exposure' to 'all manual and pre-focussing and panning' - still, following expert guidance from Seb and top 'Pro-Elbows' skills from Mike (and my stopping giving myself such a hard time about it) - things came together on Sunday....!
Will post a couple tomorrow when i'm back in the studio - don't like pp'ing with the laptop screen which is all I have here at home....
Nice route.
There are probably 1000 people on here who feel qualified to comment on it.
I'm a big fan of Chinley so if it were me, on leaving Birch Vale, I'd go straight up it and down 'New Allotments' rather than round it. If that adds too much distance/ascent I wouldn't bother with the little loop to the East of Hayfield.
Also... and again this is personal preference ... if I'm parked at Roman Lakes, I like to finish from Mellor Cross, down through the marbly zigzags, and down though golf course to Bottom's Hall. But then you miss the descent to Strines Stn (which is a shame)
I suppose the way I work it out is that while 'Strines' > 'Bottoms', ('Banks' + 'Bottoms') > 'Strines'.
Could always do banks + strines, best of both worlds then
I might come along if I'm allowed? Probably ride out to the start as well :-}
Route looks good but as with Higs, I'd go a bit more around this bit and up that bit.
Never happy, me.
It's hard to get all the best stuff in and keep everyone happy. Higs, I'm guessing you mean fro Birch Vale go straight up the road at the side of the pub, to descend New Allotments? I haven;t done that road in years, basically since we discovered the road all the way round 🙂
and yes, I did consider going over Mellor Cross, but I felt that Nealds Way and The Fox inn descent just take it. If people are feeling up to the climb, we can always climb up past shielan to do the descent across the golf course, or even carry on up to the banks to do the Linnet CLough descent. It's a shame about missing the zig zags but to be fair, at the moment they're not great as the surface is so loose and marbly I'd be worried about someone getting injured by then, people will be knackered by that point. Still, I reckon there'll be enough people with local knowledge to show any fit and keen offcumdens the local stuff that isn't on the route 🙂

Ain't that the truth.
One things trail centres do have going for them is you never end up having to ride up one of your favourite descents to make a route work.
barca- will be great to see you.
Thanks J. It'd be great to see you again as well.
I have a Peak dawn to dusk ride of ridiculous duration agreed with Gaz The Leg Ripper for one Saturday in November and I can't remember which. If it's not the day before this one, I'm in and if it is the day before this one, I'll be in bed :-}
Hmmmm..... I have a bit of a policy about riding with people called 'X the leg ripper'. It goes something like:
Is the name ironic?
Yes - ride with him
No - avoid riding with him at all costs.
Not a a hint of irony unfortunately. It's more like trying to keep him in sight than riding with him :-}
Sorry guys, wont make it. Going to Patterdale for the weekend.
We've put the girls off doing a ride off 'shecycles' from Marple, on the same date.
They said beware 'those rough boys from STW are riding from there'.
Girls, girls. you'll be fine. Where ever you decide to ride - have a good one.
I'm not a boy or rough.
why dont they join us sbf will prob be in the lakes so their bums will be safe from photo's!!!
they'll prob out ride most of us anyway g

Preposterous.
Gonna try and make it to this hopefully - will confirm nearer the time. 🙂
Like a goon on the Dragons Den - "I'm out" of this now as I've foolishly gone and booked some winter sun style break and fly out on the 8th.
I hope it's a good ride for you all.
If there are more than a handful coming I might come along if thats ok?
What kinda bike for that area? 120mm HT or 130mm FS?
I will be riding a 140mm FS, but normally ride a 100mm SS and formerly ride a 115mm HT till I killed it and replaced it with a my new 140mm HT
Seriously, there's nothing overly extreme on the ride, hardtail will be fine, I'm riding FS as it's new and I'm enoying it, I've done the route SS before now.
All comers welcome, the more the merrier. No-one gets left behind so don't worry about being to slow, if you;re worried about us slowing you down I'll have a word with Emmy and get her to rip your legs off doing laps of one of the climbs
I'm out.
Running the 'Langley 7' the day before.
Cheers for that nbt, might bring one of my mates, a relative newb - but he's getting there
as long as this cold doesn't fully materialise, then i'll be there. and possibly slowest of all on the climbs, as nbt no doubt knows!
I might be there 🙂
Depends if I die in the Lakes at the hands of Solamanda the day before or not....
Still looking good for me.
Mary Townley the day before with The Animal (but his form is a bit pants and mine for reasons I can't explain is currently very pleasing. Should be fine).
Going to post a roll call now on behalf of nbt, who's working.
The group size is looking good, wish I could say as much for the weather, hey! we're hardy types, it's what normally happens in the Peaks, a wee bit of rain won't put us off.
I wouldn't put too much reliance on a 5 day forecast round these parts.
Except that, in November, it will rain.
(unless it doesn't)
You know the saying Higgo - if you can see the hills it's about to rain, if you can't it's already raining.
I'll bring cake for the first 10 people to turn up!
No_discerning_taste - MemberI'll bring cake for the first 10 people to turn up!
Keep a bit for me. BTW you're in charge of ripping the legs off fit people 🙂
I'll pass that on to my friend Dave as I'm afraid I've eaten too much cake recently!
