Sambob Im sure we could figure something out. I was worried about legalities (responsible adult) but Pook could fit that criteria.
😆
Yeah sam we'll look out for you
The way I see it sam, you've been on a couple of our rides - you know the way we do things, how to prepare and what to expect. As long as you're happy to look after yourself alongside the rest of us, I (and I suspect most others) are happy for you to come.
I for one wont leave anyone with a broken bike etc either.
The code of Mountain bikers 8)
I think the fact that he's asked and not just turned up unaccompanied shows the fella probably has more sense than a lot of us anyway.
im deadly serious sambob. its the eyes.
😛
did your mini camera thing turn up yet? mine came yesterday, probably wont get chance to try it out till tuesday though.
just got an email from stw saying someone found my above post offensive. apologies to sambob that it didnt come across as intended, you seemed like a decent lad on the last ride and id be more than happy to have you along as im sure would everyone else who has ridden with you before. i was just pulling your leg.
sorry!
that may, or may not have been my fault, i've taken to reading STW on my phone and i've lots count on how many times i've pressed the report-post link by accident when scrolling. sorry
it wasnt me that reported you, and i didnt find it offensive 🙂 im gonna get some spds for my birthday (a week today :D) and see howi get on with them. so i may or may not have some shoes for sale by then if anyone is looking for some size 10's.
sambob- back the screws on the spds right off and ride on the road on them as much as possible. I hated mine when I first tried it. Now I wouldnt be without my Shimano DX's.
what size do i want for size 10UK?
Size 44. You really need to try them on first though as you might find one size actually fits better. I had to fit shoe inserts into my Specialized Sport MTB spd shes as I had heel-lift (like snowboard boot slip) to ensure I had a snug fit.
Also- have you bought your spds yet? Shimano DX's offer a stable and confidence inspiring 'trainer' spd for nervous first timers.... I binned two sets of standard spds before I came across DX's. Ive been on the same DX pedals/bearings for the past 4-5yrs.
13 years on my dx too, they weigh almost as much as the rest of my bike but the new ones are much lighter and I find being clipped in much better for power. you just need to think ahead slightly ready to clip out when you first get them then its second nature
where can you get dx's? i couldnt find any on crc. and how much are they? i fear they might be out of my budget.
i fear they might be out of my budget.
Honestly speak to your Dad on these (he'll hate me for saying this!). Its worth the outlay as they will last years.
Some may disagree but for me- its the perfect 'learner' spds that are also make great DH'er spds for better riders. Basically you are entering a technical section and dont want to be clipped in with one foot- you can rest your foot on the plastic cage whereas normal spds you are 'perched' precariously/contact point pivots in a way.
Slowrider, i never actually got round to it 😆 might get one for my birthday 😀 theres 2 presents sugested by the STW bunch 🙂
late to the party, never been round that bit of country side anyone have some idea of the start point and and the route please a gpx would be smashing
A gpx? we need a route first and if this group of old women keep debating it it's going to be the 28th before we have one!
When i get chance I'll do one dale
lol 😳
Sambob
you can get those pedals that Hora suggested from Decathlon for £27.95
Thay are good i`ve got some.
" new ones are much lighter "
They're still 568g and cost £45+ wheres M520s are 380g and can be got for as little as £18 (inc. cleats)
"also make great DH'er spds for better riders. Basically you are entering a technical section and dont want to be clipped in with one foot- you can rest your foot on the plastic cage"
That sounds like you haven't actually 'learnt' to use SPDs properly?
It depends on whether you use 'racer style' stiff soled shoes or not, if you do then you really shouldn't need a cage, if not (depending on the stiffness of the more casual/hiking style shoe as to whether a cage type pedal would help support your foot a bit better. (I use my spesh tahoes on M520s without any problems. The sole is perhaps stiffer than some, but still flexy compared to experts or sports)
Those pedals are the same price on Merlins 'real' website too (inc. postage) as well btw
That sounds like you haven't actually 'learnt' to use SPDs properly?
I don't think that's fair - I sometimes (when I had a cage) used to use it for precisely this, despite being able to clip in and out at will. I suppose it could explain why I'm always wikkid to the power of rad through techy sections....
:o)

Oh, so you can... http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/m424-pedals-3884482/ Proper bargain

Is that backed up by anything? Or is it said anywhere else? Do you have a link to where that came from? because i have a stiff soled shoe and i've found the cage to be very helpful when not clipped in.
Oh come on, I was merely suprised at one line on a councils website constituted law. I didn't mean to come across as questioning you personally (not sure this is reading properly either), so sorry If I did
Surely (one of) the point(s) of SPDs is the extra pedal security. If you're unclipping in the most techincal situations (where its needed most) then you'd be better off with some grippy flat pedals in this instance?
Just my opinion
most people, in my opinion, cant transfer straight from flats to spd so why not have both? in my opinion i prefer both even though i'm so used to riding clipped in when i'm unclipped feels wrong, in my opinion.
Hmm maybe, though not having that safety net will make you learn much quicker ..
Haha. I give up
£27- Bargain. Im popping down to buy some. Maybe will never need them but as backups you cant ignore that. Thanks for the heads up.

Remember when planning this route we need to have access for Skiprat to follow in the support van with your large screwdriver.
Do you honestly think that thing will fit in my van????? Will need to leave the back door open and put a flag on the end!!! 😉
oi - leave my oversized bulbous shiny red thing out of this. 😯

Might get our lass to drive and then pop into 18 Bikes to do some shopping!!

Has anyone mentioned a start time, can we do it in the morning so those of us dragging SO's behind us can get some afternoon delight in at the hotel afterwards?
